Main purpose of job:

The function of the Assistant Technical Works Foreman is to make sure that all technical works within the British High Commission are coordinated properly and carried out as they should be.

He/she should possess knowledge of construction procedures and have good qualities. Assistant Foremen often have to work in extreme conditions which are why it is important for them to be physically agile and flexible.

He/she also need to possess exceptional time and change management skills and be able to work towards tight deadlines.

Roles and responsibilities:

Assisting the Estates Officer/Foreman in supervising TW Group, sub contractors and other labour workers Receiving work requests from CSM/Estates Officer and auctioning them on day to day basis; ensuring work is carried out to high standard either by TWG or contractors.

Assist in new Installation works such as carrying out installation and test of electrical equipments, wiring, cabling and installation of new machines, Capentry works, Plumbing, generator set, Gas installation, fire fighting equipments, detectors, lighting and power system.

Communicating effectively on progress reports on a daily basis and ensures that any significant information is communicated to the Estate Officer, and keeps management updated on Site development.

Coordinating with Local Authorities and companies for works related issues like Water Supply, Electric Supply for the benefit of the post and making sure that works are completed on or before deadlines and all onsite incidents and emergencies is handled in a proactive manner.

Record Keeping: Keeping record of all work requests (hard copy and soft copy) and covering for TWG Foreman and Estates officers in their absence.

Assisting in maintaining Health and Safety Records on house inspection, following up Routine(monthly checks and annual inspections) for Gas, Electric, Water, Fire etc and He/she should have an awareness and appreciation of UK Health and Safety Legislation to implement changes in working culture and practice within the estates.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a FCO Diplomatic Mission or similar NGOs with technical experience
  • Able to prioritise a heavy workload and works well under pressure
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Full Driving license
  • An open and approachable manner
  • Customer focus
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required
  • A very good knowledge of Banjul and the country
  • Electrical wiring regulation experience will be an asset
  • Training in Health and Safety essential
  • Training in Fire safety essential
  • Quality and consistent service with technical expertise and advice
