Main purpose of job:

The UK has a thriving technology sector with many promising companies including start-ups.  The global trend in digital transformation across the economy is also impacting Japan and interest by Japanese companies in overseas technology companies has become very strong.  Our aim is to raise the awareness of this UK strength in Japan, identify business opportunities in Japan and match UK companies with Japanese companies.  The successful candidate will be working with UK and Japanese technology companies and government departments of both countries to identify opportunities and bring the UK and Japan closer.  


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Providing advice to UK technology companies to support their endeavours to sell to the Japanese market.

Providing support (both logistical and content related) to the Senior Trade Adviser and other team members to deliver events/activities to promote UK exports to Japan.

Gathering market intelligence and developing a network of useful contacts in Japan with the Senior Trade Adviser and other team members in order to identify business opportunities for UK companies.   

Tackling any market access issues that keep the UK companies from entering the Japanese market liaisng with the Technology Team members and relevant teams.  

Regular administration tasks, for example database entry of contact data, procurement and handling of payments etc.

Contribute to the Japan Network’s crisis readiness and take on a corporate objective that contributes to the wider running of the network.  

  • 3+ year working experience in either private sector companies or public sector organisations. 
  • Interest in the technology sector.
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)  
  • Fluent in Japanese (JLPT1 for non-native speakers) and business-level English (oral and written)
