The British Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Business Support Officer to join the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team.

DBT is an international economic department, securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment opportunities and championing free trade.

The successful candidate will support the DBT team, providing administrative continuity across initiatives, leading on budget tracking and information management, and contributing to trade promotion and research activities where necessary.

The Business Support Officer will work as part of the DBT team at the British Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Your role will be varied and demanding, and you will need to be flexible. You will need to have a great eye for detail and an ability to juggle priorities according to demanding timelines. Relationship building skills are essential as you will need to create good contacts, across different teams within the Embassy.

  • Team support, including data and information management.
  • Providing logistical support for large-scale events, workshops, trade missions and visiting delegations.
  • Conduct desk research that supports trade objectives, including identifying relevant regional buyers interested in partnering with the UK businesses.
  • Budget support, including monitoring budgets, recording spending, and working with colleagues to forecast spend.
  • Contribute to the wider Embassy work as required.

Essential on arrival:  

  • Fluent written and spoken English and Azerbaijani (minimum level required C1 under the CEFR or equivalent).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, and Excel
  • Ability to manage your own work with minimal supervision and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, and efficient time management with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adapt and support a wide variety of tasks.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with a government, state or trade organisation.
  • Previous experience in a business support role and/or events management.
  • Experience working within an international environment.
