Learning and Development

Main purpose of job:

The International Academy provides innovative and creative learning solutions to meet the needs of the UK government to support learners in doing their jobs more effectively, based on specific organisational goals. The International Academy has teams based across the globe and in the UK, partnering with British Missions (Posts) and Directorates to ensure learning is based on performance outcomes and aligned to UK Government priorities. We work to ensure that learning activities are designed to best-practice Learning and Development (L&D) standards, based on solid research and contribute to building a positive learning culture within the workplace. The role of the L&D Adviser in the Americas region will be to collaborate with a number of specific Posts. This will include partnering with the Posts and stakeholders as well as designing, delivering and implementing blended learning solutions based on organisational priorities and regional needs, through identifying specific performance outcomes

 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Partner with Posts and Stakeholders on Learning solutions

  • Partner with L&D Champions/stakeholders at a specific number of Posts and thematic leads in the region to identify, design and deliver learning solutions that meet identified needs/performance outcomes.
  • Support and advise Posts with identifying appropriate learning interventions through:Evaluate the impact of L&D solutions on performance outcomes and maintain management information and data.
    • Providing Posts with L&D consultancy support/advice
    • Supporting the development of L&D strategies that align to Country Business Plans/ organisational objectives
    • Encouraging robust Learning Needs Analyses are undertaken to support the L&D strategy
    • Supporting Posts in establishing L&D plans based on 70/20/10 and blended learning solutions
  • Evaluate the impact of L&D solutions on performance outcomes and maintain management information and data.

Facilitation

  • Facilitate face to face, virtual sessions and programmes as well as support online communities and groups.
  • Facilitate Leadership & Management Development programmes
  • Support Management Development cohorts including Line Management learning sets
  • Lead cohorts of learners through programmes in support of International Academy Faculties
  • Work with and develop Subject Matter Experts (SME) to deliver targeted learning through virtual platforms
  • Keep professional knowledge up to date, following trends, ideas and innovations occurring in L&D to ensure methods and materials are as effective as possible

Essential on arrival:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an L&D design & delivery context, either in the public or private sector.
  • Professional qualifications in L&D, OD or equivalent and membership of internationally recognised HR professional body (eg CIPD, ATD)
  • Knowledge of modern learning methodologies including online learning design.
  • Previous experience in an L&D consultative role and strong client-facing/ stakeholder management experience.
  • Strong communicator and facilitator (face to face and virtually)
  • Learning design skills to implement innovative learning solutions
  • Experience of social and collaborative learning tools and platforms.
  • Able to travel as and when required across the Americas region and occasionally other regions
  • A passion and enthusiasm for developing people
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
