The Scottish Development International (SDI) are looking for a Senior Oil and Gas Specialist to be based in Stavanger.

As part of the British Embassy team in Norway but based at the Scottish Enterprise office in Stavanger, our new SDI colleague will lead on trade support and development for Scotland in the oil and gas sector. The right candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships that increase Scottish trade, identify export opportunities and provide market insight in Norway. While focussed on the Norwegian west coast, the role will also lead to collaboration with British Embassy teams in Oslo. An in-depth knowledge of the Norwegian offshore market – its ecosystems, players and the role of the sector in the economy – is a must.

Scottish Development International (SDI), Scotland’s international trade agency, plays an important part in the UK’s commercial outreach and works in collaboration with the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) and Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Main duties and responsabilities:

  • To provide expert support, advice and market insight to Scottish companies wishing to enter the Norwegian oil, gas and offshore market
  • To build relationships with organisations that increase Scottish trade by identifying export opportunities, market insights and supply chain gaps in the O&G sector
  • To deliver against Scottish Government export targets and raise the profile of Scotland as a leading offshore economy as well as a technology / R&D hub for the industry
  • To lead on the development of effective partnerships and networks with stakeholders such as O&G / offshore firms, chambers, Global Scots, incubators, investors and industry bodies
  • To collaborate with colleagues from across UK Government including the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT), FCO, as well as national / regional Norwegian entities
  • To identify, attend, deliver key events and activities which support Scottish trade work including trade shows, exhibitions, webinars, trade missions and speaking opportunities
  • To support and leverage visits into the region by Ministers and senior officials with existing investors, prospects, customers and stakeholders
  • An experienced networker with established relationships in the oil, gas and offshore sectors in Norway
  • Strong communicator
  • Proficient (both oral and written) in English and in Norwegian 
  • confident in using Office 365 as well as CRM as reporting as a reporting platform
  • A team player with a consultative approach who can collaborate successfully within a geography and ‘virtual team’ to achieve common objectives
  • Fast learner who can demonstrate initiative, resilience, and adaptability
  • An understanding of government and the role it plays in industry / trade
  • Experience of working in an international trade promotion environment
