UKMIS (UK Mission to the United Nations)

Main purpose of job:

To provide administrative support to the Political Section at the UK Mission to the United Nations. This new position in the Mission will support the delivery of UK political priorities at the Security Council and across UN Headquarters.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support including: information management, photocopying, faxing, shredding, compiling briefing, arranging official travel (flights, visas etc), arranging day to day meetings and Mission events (including issuing invitations, corresponding with other Missions, co-ordinating RSVPs, ordering catering etc).
  • Support on incoming visits by UK Ministers and senior officials, including setting up programmes, organising logistics and arranging catering.

  • Office management for UKMIS political section: budget planning and monitoring, managing stationery and other office supplies,

  • Provide support (e.g. notetaking) for UN Security Council and wider Political Section business, particularly during busy times of year.

  • Working as part of a wider flexible administrative team, provide additional administrative and organisational support around high-level events including the UN General Assembly Ministerial Week in September, including assisting policy leads and team members around these events;

  • Provide general secretarial support for Senior Staff within the team

  • Provide cover for other members of the UKMIS Administrative Team as necessary

  • Additional duties, tasks, and/or projects as assigned.






The ideal candidate must have a can-do attitude. They will be an enthusiastic and flexible team player, able to deliver results quickly and accurately with great attention to detail, and be able to shift priorities swiftly to a variety of different tasks.

Under US State Department requirements, the Mission may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or G visa holders*. If you hold a visa other than a G visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Mission. Please refer to our website for information on exceptions to this policy at www.gov.uk/world/usa.

*A visas are acceptable at the Embassy and Consulates. The UK Mission to the UN (UKMIS) accepts G visas, and British Defence Staff (BDS) outposts accept A or NATO visas.



              • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of two years’ work experience in a relevant field;
              • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
              • Track record of organisational skills, including managing multiple tasks and strong attention to detail;
              • Proactive and flexible team player, ready to help out all colleagues and sections when they need it;
              • Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

              • Knowledge of the work of the UN
              • Familiarity with the UK Government
