The British Embassy Abu Dhabi has a vacancy for a Chancery Support Officer.

The jobholder will be responsible for general administration of Political and Economic Section, acting as point of contact for incoming external enquiries, filing and information management, logistical support for internal and external meetings, and other administrative tasks.

The jobholder will support the Visits and Political Officer in the organisation and administration of all Royal, Ministerial, VIP, and senior official level visits and facilitating senior Emirati visits to the UK.


Duties and responsibilities:

– General administration of Political and Economic Section (60%)

  • Administrative support for the Head of Political Section (including mailbox and diary management);
  • Drafting and issuing Diplomatic Notes to request meetings, notify of inward visits, and draft other notes;
  • Working with Embassy teams to assist in the delivery of Embassy events;
  • Responsible for Political/ Economic Section Information Management tasks such as maintenance of filing systems and databases;
  • Providing logistical support for external meetings;
  • Maintaining and updating book of contacts and CVs for the section;
  • Assisting the team with general administrative tasks; and
  • Flexibility to respond to Political/ Economic Section team requirements as they arise.

– Supporting the Visits and Political Officer in the organisation and administration of all Royal, Ministerial, VIP, and senior official level visits and facilitating senior Emirati visits to the UK (40%)

  • Assisting with finalising programmes for inward visits, including arranging official calls, often to tight deadlines, ensuring accuracy of information;
  • Keep the forward look of upcoming inbound and outbound visits up to date; and
  • Work with others, including Embassy staff (Government Relations Officers, the Ambassador’s Residence Manager) on visit logistics: transport; accommodation and entertainment programme elements.

  • IT literate: competence in word processing, email, and calendar management (e.g., knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes such as Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Proven record as an administrator;
  • Minimum two years of office experience;
  • Arabic language skills; and
  • Experience working with Government officials, Ministries, and Institutions.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of annual leave per annum, on-site parking and on-site swimming pool, gym, and sports facilities.

Salary is at AED 11,108 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07:30 to 15:06, including a lunch break of 36 minutes, from Sunday to Thursday.

Successful candidates will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.
