The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Norway and is now looking to recruit a Market Adviser for the Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Norway and other international markets. DIT also assists overseas companies to bring high-quality investment to the UK’s economy.

The successful jobholder will help to promote British trade / exports across a range of sectors, developing the UK’s long-term trade with Norway and provide UK companies with the support to enter/develop their business in Norway.

DIT Oslo deals with both high value and volume work.  This role is to promote UK companies and expertise within long-term, key strategic areas and help deliver activities towards these through High Value Campaigns. This within particularly but not exclusively infrastructure and energy.

Tasks include supporting British exporters entering the Norwegian market either through bespoke services or by executing trade missions; research and collection of market and sector information is key to the role, as is developing a network of contacts to help support the main objective; and identifying new opportunities for British exporters will be part of the tasks. There may be elements responding to general enquiries in order to meet the targets whilst maintaining a quality service to our customers.

In more detail, main responsibilities will include:

  • Respond to enquiries from UK companies looking for information on, and access to, the Norwegian market;
  • Respond to enquiries from Norwegian companies re. sourcing products and services from the UK within one’s designated sector;
  • Proactively identify Market Opportunities, link those to relevant UK stakeholders and encourage Norwegian companies to source UK products. This could be in sector specific projects or publishing tailored opportunities via the UK Export Opportunities web-base service;
  • Produce chargeable reports and market screenings commissioned by clients;
  • Ensure up-to-date maintenance of CRM records, completed with all interactions and services provided.  Undertake training and self-development to increase understanding of the sectors covered and increase knowledge of DIT.  Also include ad-hoc tasks as part of a wider Embassy and DIT role;
  • Support and deliver activities directly linked to DIT Norway’s Strategic campaigns, including market research, planning and executing missions, participate at trade fairs and undertake company meetings and market briefings.
  • Fluency in Norwegian and English (both oral and written);
  • Competent in Microsoft Office;
  • Strong report writing skills;
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines;
  • Good telephone manner;
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Knowledge of certain sectors, including infrastructure (road / rail), energy (oil and gas / power) or related services.

This is a full-time permanent position. The working hours are 35 net per week.
