To provide support to the Political Team’s policy work focused on Brazilian domestic politics as well as on administrative and financial duties. This position involves advising on domestic politics and liaising with the commercial teams, as well as research and communication skills. It also includes work on visits and events.

Roles and responsibilities:

The British Consulate-General in São Paulo invites applications to join the Political Team in Brazil. This is an exciting and stretching position within the Domestic Politics mini-team which will give the successful candidate opportunities to work with key issues in the United Kingdom and Brazil bilateral relationship.

The successful candidate will have the chance to advise diplomats and senior managers, and be involved in the diplomatic life of a Mission. The main working language of the Consulate-General is English, so the jobholder should be able to write reports and briefings in both English and Portuguese.

  • Advise Consul, Vice-Consul and Commercial teams at the British Consulate-General in São Paulo on domestic and local politics
  • Support the wider Political Team in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, and more broadly the Brazil Network on political trends, providing research and analysis when necessary.
  • Provide support on policy monitoring. Responsibilities include writing briefs on local government/stakeholders, monitoring local political news.
  • Provide support for projects and events. Responsibilities include arranging meetings, booking venues, setting up events (branding, catering, etc.), coordinating mailing lists, sending and following up on invitations, etc.
  • Assist in the organisation of visits of UK officials to Brazil, including arranging logistics around accommodation, transport, and support on briefing packs and meetings.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, pro-active and enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills in both English and Portuguese. Applicants must also have excellent computer skills, particularly MS Outlook and MS Office packages.

  • Qualifications or experience equivalent to degree level.
  • Previous experience in working with domestic politics and institutional affairs is an asset.
  • Have experience in reporting and administrative duties, especially in visits and events, with excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • The successful applicant should be able to work autonomously and be a self-starter, able to deal with multiple tasks and priorities. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese.
  • Previous experience with research and written reports would be an advantage.
