The British Embassy in Algiers is looking for an enthusiastic, self starter, to take on this exciting and interesting role. The job holder will essentially have a split role working across two functions (Department for Transport & Foriegn & Commonwealth Office) as part of a new global Counter Terrorism and Extremism Network. (CTEN).

The job holder will develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Algerian government, to help deliver a number of core objectives of improving aviation security standards in-country, and working on counter terrorism and broader security issues.

Duties and responsibilities:

As part of their split role the the post holder will be expected to manage the Aviation Security Liaison Office (ASLO), working closely with Corporate Services, DfT colleagues in London, the Host Government(s) and other countries’ aviation security teams as well as airlines and security companies.  

A key part of the work involves diplomacy and liaison with the various Host government authorities on a ange of  security issues.

The post holder will have the following areas of responsibility;

  • Managing a portfolio of security projects (that will include aviation security training, staff mentoring and the provision of security equipment).
  • Provide high-quality analysis and reporting to Embassy colleagues and London stakeholders on developments within the  security system
  • Provide strategic awareness and support for the Embassy Programming team, ensuring coherence between the teams.
  • Providing effective and efficient office support including record keeping; organising meetings/events; drafting of Note Verbales and other formal correspondence;
  • Leading on all administrative procedures: processing incoming and outgoing post as well as telephone and email enquiries;
  • Ensuring expenditure records in-country are kept up to date and in line with FCO and UK DfT processes; manage any Programme budget, and office expense reconciliation
  • Initiating project proposals and taking responsibility for their planning, financial management and delivery;
  • Monitoring, assessing, evaluating and reporting on local aviation security standards and procedures (particularly during or following capacity building assistance);
  • Monitor local media and other sources for news and developments.
  • Providing advice and briefing to key stakeholders on Aviation/CT security matters.

The job holder will have an important liaison function with the ability to report important information accurately to Embassy colleagues and London stakeholders.  The post holder will work closely with the Embassy Programmes Team and Senior Management in delivering progress towards the Embassy’s CT goals. 

The job holder will need to have the ability to multi-task and manage office budgets. They will require a high degree of stakeholder engagement skills, an awareness of local protocols and issues, project management, financial management, working with officials from the host government and collaborating with colleagues both in London and at UK Diplomatic Missions. 

There may be some domestic and international travel required.

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including: net salary of 91,443.18 DZD per month including *15,000 DZD allowances; 25 days paid leave annually along with up to 14 days paid public holidays.

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

Conditioned working hours are 37.5 hours per week. Normal working hours are 08:00 – 15:30 Sunday to Thursday. 

The successful candidate will receive 25 days paid annual leave and up to 14 days paid public holidays.
