Main purpose of job:


This is an operational role supporting the UK Department for International Trade’s US life sciences team. The position will manage projects to help our team work more efficiently, curate central sources of information, conduct research, and support marketing activities. It will offer the opportunity to support our work with large biopharmaceutical companies, health systems, medtech companies, and fast-growing health tech companies. The Trade and Investment Associate will be part of two vibrant teams – a 30-person Trade and Investment team based in New York and an 18-person life sciences team spread across the US. We define life sciences as comprising two main sub-sectors: 1) biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, 2) healthcare (including medical devices, diagnostics and health IT).


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

 

  • Revamp and manage a central US life sciences team site to store and share information
  • Maintain segmented lists of US contacts
  • Maintain sector team calendar, budget, and FDI/trade pipelines
  • Support administration, logistics, and briefing for cross-post activities, including annual sector team meetings
  • Source content, draft stories, and expand readership of monthly newsletter for life sciences FDI clients
  • Research industry trends and gather intelligence on untapped market opportunities
  • Support marketing activities by curating content, supporting work to update our core value proposition, and working with UK and US marketing teams on ad hoc projects
  • Assist with consular support services in times of crisis

Essential on arrival:


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a life sciences or healthcare discipline
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Understanding and knowledge of the business environments in the UK and US
  • Committed team player
  • Ability to be proactive, organized and work to deadlines, while operating as part of a wider team with shared goals and wide-ranging objectives
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritize and manage tasks
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent research skills, with an ability to emphasise relevant information and to provide clear, concise summaries
  • Attention to detail and good follow up discipline
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team and often under tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Project)
  • Ability to undertake occasional travel within the US and the UK
