The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Norway and is now looking to recruit a Head of Prosperity. This is a new position which will support the Embassy’s work on European matters and trade policy.

The Candidate will lead the Embassy on energy and climate change policy. Also lead the Oslo Prosperity Group, working across sections (especially BREXIT team and Trade/Investment team) to shape a joint strategy and action plan to deliver agreed objectives on economic and global issues.   Supervise the two-strong team of Economic Diplomacy and the Science and Innovation policy advisers, setting direction for the team and providing guidance to deliver activities to a high standard. Integrate knowledge and analysis developed by the team to produce policy advice and recommendations for the Ambassador and senior officials across UK Government.   Develop and manage strategies for stakeholder engagement, public diplomacy, risk management and impact measurement within the Prosperity area.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Policy Analysis and Advice

Building expertise and effective networks in policy area, responsible for integrating knowledge and delivering insight, recommendations and risk assessment for senior decision makers. Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based policy advice to HM Ambassador and to officials across Whitehall. Develop innovative and imaginative strategies for events and opportunities to develop close UK/Norway partnerships in key areas.

Leadership and Strategic Planning

Engage and motivate team, build their expertise and tradecraft skills, and lead stakeholder engagement. Ensure public diplomacy resource is targeted effectively on Prosperity priorities. Monitor and report on results, including measurement of impact. Contribute to strategic business planning within policy area. Contribute to corporate leadership through the Learning and Development committee.

Stakeholder Engagement

Cultivate relationships with influential contacts in government, business and civil society to advance embassy objectives. Provide advice to HM Ambassador and seniors to develop strategic relationships that deliver UK Prosperity and energy security agendas.

University degree or equivalent related to energy, environment, climatology, economics, business studies, or five years’ experience working in a related commercial sector.

The successful candidate will have the ability to deliver at pace, working with colleagues of different nationalities and cultures across industry, NGOs and government in Norway and the United Kingdom as part of the Embassy senior management team.

Experience of working in an international environment; public/private sector experience; excellent relationship-building skills; well-developed analytical skills and the ability to clearly communicate them to different audiences.

This is a full-time permanent position. The working hours are 35 net per week.
