Scottish Development International (SDI), Scotland’s international trade and investment agency, and plays an integral part in the Embassy’s commercial outreach with a dedicated team supporting both Scottish exporters willing to develop their sales in France (Trade), and French investors looking to set-up or to expand their operations in Scotland (Inward Investment).

The successful candidate will work with SDI’s Senior Trade Specialist in charge of Renewables and Low Carbon Transition, whose role is to support Scottish companies develop their business on the French market.

The main areas of focus are offshore wind renewables and low carbon hydrogen.

The intern will support the Senior trade specialist in the successful delivery of energy related activities and events : one to one company support, trade delegations, tradeshows and conferences.

- Market intelligence and desk research

- Setting-up and attending meetings with Scottish energy companies (in presence of the Senior trade specialist)

- Reaching out to French / European customers on behalf of our Scottish clients

- Redacting briefings, business meeting programmes.

- Supporting the organisation and delivery of events

  • Proficient English and French (B2 and above) - (both written and spoken for CEFR framework)
  • A keen interest in a career in business or trade – but not necessarily demonstrated through academia
  • Excellent IT skills, with a focus on the suite of Microsoft Office products
  • Relevant experience, or vocational qualification(s) (whether completed or in progress) in commerce/trade, marketing or allied areas.
  • Some experience in a client-facing role, or customer service experience.
  • Some experience of working in a project environment or of juggling competing priorities, whether in a work or personal context

The internship will be for a minimum period of 4 months (full-time) and will start (subject to availability of the candidate) in May 2023. 

At the beginning of your internship you should be able to provide with convention de stage provided by your university/higher education establishment and liability insurance to cover your period of internship at the British Embassy.

All appointments are subject to professional background checks, and a satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at https://www.cjn.justice.gouv.fr/cjn/b3/eje20 ), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in France are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local French employment law and FCDO guidance for Country Based Staff. The posts we offer are not an entry point into the UK’s Diplomatic Service.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in France and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
