Main purpose of job

The Department for International Trade (DIT) Ulaanbaatar started its operations within the British Embassy in 2013 with an objective to increase trade and investment between the UK and Mongolia. This is an exciting and varied role within a small and busy team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the DIT team to help UK companies and investors to do business in Mongolia. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

  • To assist the DIT team in its day to day work. This involves providing administrative support to the DIT team, including organising meetings and travel, processing expenses, preparing documents and issuing invitations for events.
  • To update the local DIT contact database and the global DIT customer management system (Data Hub), support the DIT team in responding to enquiries from British businesses, prepare bespoke market research reports, organise visits and events, and follow up as required.
  • Proactively scan the market for opportunities for British companies and publish those opportunities on the global database.
  • Lead on the Food & Drink sector. Develop extensive knowledge of the sector, follow developments, spot opportunities and promote British products and companies.
  • Look after the DIT UB social media pages and implement the marketing plan outlined by the Head of Mining and and Infrastructure (M&I) and Trade and Investment (T&I) Officer. As part of the marketing responsibilities, leadon marketing inventories and work with relevant suppliers.
  • Support the Head of M&I to shape and deliver an effective local stakeholder engagement plan, including meetings and events (e.g. receptions). To develop strong working relationships with stakeholders in Mongolia and the UK, and drive follow up.
  • Support wider Embassy activities (GREAT events, high level visits etc) as necessary.
  • Support wider DIT/ Embassy priorities as these develop.

Language:

  • English - excellent written and spoken English
  • Mongolian - fluent

Essential on Arrival:

  • Educated to degree level
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Mongolian
  • Team work skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • An ability to take initiative
  • Good command of Excel, Word & PowerPoint
  • Understanding of campaign planning & event delivery
  • Self starter who is able to work with little supervision
  • Knowledge and experience of marketing and social media
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required as there will be occasional events, reception

Desirable:

  • Experience in organising events and managing projects would be an advantage
  • Private sector experience is desirable but not essential
