The Programme Officer (Conflict and Security) will serve as a key member of the British Embassy’s Policy, Projects and Communications team. S/he will support the Second Secretary in the pursuit of the Embassy’s security objectives. This will include delivery of Embassy programme and capacity building work and facilitation of bilateral security engagement, accompanied by monitoring, assessing and reporting about conflict and security issues.

 

The job-holder will have a front-line role in delivering the Embassy’s security objectives. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong academic record, a deep interest in conflict and security, and the skills to deliver in a complex and dynamic environment. Professional experience of conflict and security work is desirable.

 

The jobholder will be responsible for:

 

  • Monitoring of events and trends, conducting assessments and analyses, and advising on responses
  • Regular, insightful and influential reporting about conflict and security issues
  • Design, implementation and oversight of projects and capacity building
  • Building and maintaining a deep and broad network of relevant contacts
  • Deputising as required by the Second Secretary in attending meetings and representing the Embassy

 

The jobholder will have exceptional communication skills. S/he will have an eye both for detail and for the bigger picture, and will feel comfortable delivering effectively and efficiently at pace within a broad range of environments. S/he will feel comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams, and – with creativity and innovation – as a self-starter. The jobholder will be willing and able to conduct frequent travel throughout the Philippines, including in Mindanao.
