The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing a wide range of British interests overseas from political, through Economic, consular and Law Enforcement. The Embassy is now looking for an Immigration Liaison Assistant to provide administrative and operational support to the Immigration Liaison Manager (ILM) and Immigration Liaison Officers (ILO) as necessary. To contribute to close working partnerships with Host country law enforcement, carriers and other UK law enforcement teams. The work of the IEI team contributes to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Germany network and the successful candidate will also contribute in supporting the Embassy’s positive working environment by becoming part of the British Government’s presence in Germany, which aims to support and foster them and their work.

Main duties and responsibilities: 

  • Manage the team email inbox including responding to, actioning and referring on emails as appropriate;

  • Maintain risk databases, including substantial data entry and related background research and development;

  • Prepare statistics, reports and carry out translations;

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including Embassy colleagues, airlines and local Law Enforcement across the Germany/Austria/Switzerland region;

  • Organise regional travel, training sessions and internal/external meetings in consultation with the ILO/M;

  • Regional travel may be required.

  • Fluent English and German both written and spoken is essential (C2 level under the CEFR or equivalent*) and will be tested during the application process;

  • IT literacy, a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point is essential;

  • Flexibility. Occasionally the position may require the job holder to work extended hours or work flexibly, sometimes at short notice;

  • The ability to work effectively within a small team;

  • The ability to work effectively as part of the wider embassy structure, in accordance with embassy values, contributing to wider corporate life.

  • Experience of working in an international/multilateral environment;

  • Previous administrative experience;

  • Basic knowledge of UK and German government/civil service structures;

  • Previous experience or knowledge of the travel industry, aviation and/or security sectors.

This is a full-time fixed-term position for a contract period of one year, with the possibility of renewal by mutual agreement. The gross yearly salary is €45,564.00 rising to approx €51,182.00 gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable).

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Germany are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
