Main purpose of job:

Support the DIT Trade Policy Officer (TPO) in the delivery of the newly established annual Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) with Indonesia including establishing and running sectoral working groups and preparing for Senior Official meetings.  Proactively drive market access activities in all sectors and support wider UK Government objectives, including trade promotion, inward and outward investment, UK Export Finance and Overseas Development Assistance programmes (e.g., Prosperity Fund).  

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Work alongside the Trade Policy Officer to deliver all aspects of the high profile Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO);
  • Provide policy advice on Indonesian trade priorities;
  • Lead front-line market access work with the the relevant DIT sector teams;
  • Own and manage the Digital Market Access System in Jakarta;
  • Provide market access assistance and advice to individual UK companies;
  • Act as the DIT/Embassy expert on relevant market access issues;
  • Build and maintain a network of Indonesian stakeholders;
  • Recommend and action appropriate strategies to resolve these barriers;
  • Proactively identify synergies between market access and wider DIT objectives;
  • Identify export and investment opportunities for UK companies;  
  • Understand the UK Government’s Regional Trade Plan for Asia Pacific and support DIT Senior Management on market access;
  • Flexibly support the Country Director on other team priorities as required;
  • Proactively build relationships with Embassy colleagues to identify synergies between market access and trade barriers and wider UK Government objectives;
  • Provide other operational support, as required.

  • Fluent in both spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English
  • An understanding of the key issues related to international trade policy, and the organisations involved
  • Ability to liaise with and manage external stakeholder relationships
  • A track record of successfully dealing with Government, international and Indonesian companies, including at senior level
  • Good communicator at all levels, spoken and written 
  • Experience in completing timely and accurate written information in English
  • Strong  organisational skills
  • Flexible and reactive to new issues and priorities
  • Ability to work at pace and prioritise, managing a sometimes demanding workload
  • IT proficiency – Using MS Office, Outlook and ability to learn FCO systems
  • Corporate Business Development experience would be highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with the UK 
  • Market research and analysis experience  
  • Ability to travel within Indonesia and ASEAN
