Main purpose of job:

Support UK companies to win new business in the financial and professional services sector in Indonesia, unlocking new opportunities for export and investment, addressing market access barriers, using UK Export Finance (UKEF) to finance trade, and supporting wider UK Government objectives including the Digital Trade Network, UK Export Finance and Overseas Development Assistance programmes (e.g., Prosperity Fund).

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Lead DIT’s financial and professional services campaign;

  • Understand the UK Government’s Regional Trade Plan for Asia Pacific, develop local sector campaign;

  • Identify and promote business opportunities in Indonesia for UK firms in the financial and professional services sector

  • Develop a pipeline of projects through market intelligence, research, company engagment, relationship management of stakeholders

  • Relationship manage, provide assistance and advice to individual UK companies

  • Proactively identify synergies between trade promotion and wider DIT objectives, including trade policy/market access, investment, Digital Trade Network and UK Export Finance (UKEF);

  • Support the newly established UK-Indonesia Joint Economic and Trade Committee, by advising on issues to be discussed and resolved.  Identify, prioritise and report market access issues impacting UK business.

  • Identify opportunities to encourage Indonesian investors to invest in the UK, working with the DIT investment manager

  • Identify opportunities to use UK Export Finance product, working with UKEF colleagues

  • Proactively build relationships with Embassy colleagues to identify synergies with other UK Government objectives

  • Work with the British Chamber and wider Embassy to plan and deliver event activities, including Ministerial and senior official visits

  • Work with the DIT /Embassy marketing teams to disseminate information of interest to stakeholders

  • Flexibly support other team priorities

The Trade and Investment Officer will gain a broad range of trade and investment experience which he/she can use to further progress their career within DIT.

  • Fluent in both spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to liaise with and manage external stakeholder relationships
  • Experience of working in or with the private sector
  • Good communicator at all levels, spoken and written
  • Experience in completing timely and accurate written information in English
  • IT proficiency – Using MS Office, Outlook and ability to learn FCO systems
  • Ability to travel within Indonesia and ASEAN
  • Financial and professional services sector knowledge
  • Corporate Business Development, Sales or Marketing experience
  • Experience of working with international companies
  • Familiarity with the UK
  • Market research and analysis experience
