Main purpose of job:

To perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, fittings, buildings, and structures.  Maintains structures and furniture to meet FCDO standards.  Responsible for the repairs and finishing skilled carpentry work, including cabinetry, floor work and door and windows. Participates in the maintenance and operation of the carpentry shop.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  1. Constructs, repair, assemble and secure cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door and window frames, and other types of furniture.
  2. Cleans, maintains, adjusts, calibrates and services the tools used in the performance of duties.
  3. Install carpet from rolls or blocks on floors and Install padding including trim flooring materials.
  4. Monitors and supervises contractors’ work for adherence to TWS Requirements and reports back to office.
  5. Installs repairs and maintains building roofs gutters and down pipes and looks after their maintenance.
  6. Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service for works requiring carpenters’ skill.
  7. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, door and window furniture, ant shutter films, etc. as required.
  8. Help in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of wooden structures, repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, and surfaces for electrical and plumbing.

Liaise with store manager for materials stock to procure new stock as required and advises in the selection and storage of necessary materials.

Working patterns:

Monday – Friday 8:00 – 4:30

Saturday 8:00 – 2:00

Annual Leave and Public Holidays:

Locally engaged staff of all grades will be entitled to paid annual leave as follows:
Up to 2 years 22 days
After 2 years services 25 days
After 5 years services 30 days

In addition to annual leave, the British Embassy observes up to a maximum number of 14 Ethiopian, British and Religious public holidays each year. A list of such Embassy holidays will be published each year. Office Staff required to work on these holidays will be granted time off in lieu or overtime where circumstances permit.
