The British Government’s Embassy in Washington has an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented person to join the US Human Resources Team as an HR Officer for Compensation, Payroll and Pension. This opportunity is a rewarding role which supports and further develops the special relationship between the UK and the US, supporting work at the forefront of international diplomacy in order to make a real difference globally.

This network provides a platform for approximately 30 Government departments and agencies to conduct their work in the United States and is made up of over 900 staff with a rich and diverse background, skill sets, and experiences.

This is a chance to directly contribute to the way in which both Governments collaborate by providing excellent organisational support.  This position if the link between human resources, account and finance, and the regional HR HUB.  The position supports staff by helping determine proper compensation levels for all staff and reporting the cost of compensation and benefits in the US our global partners in the UK.

The ideal candidate will be possess excellent initiative and be a self-starter who possess excellent attention to detail, a strong customer-service focus, and background in employee compensation, accounting or human resources. 

 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Working within established parameters determine and document compensation level for all positions within the US Network. 
  • Manage the US Network’s 401(k) (employee pension) plan.
  • Monitor human resources spending to ensure it is in-line with current budgets. 
  • Interact with colleagues in the central Payroll team to ensure any changes to the bi-weekly payroll are communicated effectively and provide support for the payroll processing. 
  • Interact with Finance colleagues to properly record all human resources spend in the general ledger. 
  • Manage Network-wide HR projects which deal with pay. 
  • Any other duties as assigned.

  •  Experience working in fast-paced/ customer facing organisation.
  •  Expert knowledge MS Excel with business level knowledge of MS Office
  •  A demonstrated record of exceptional customer support
  •  Basic knowledge of payroll processes
  •  Demonstrable, problem-solving skills and use of positive initiative

Working patterns

 This role typically requires a 40-hour work week, however there may be occasional need to work additional hours to support projects and ensure payroll is processed accordantly. 

 The British Embassy and its US Network embraces hybrid working, allowing its staff to typically work from home 2 or 3 times a week.  We are an organization that also recognises the critical value of teamwork, and we embrace and endorse collaboration by ensuring that all staff attend the office flexibly yet regularly.
