Main purpose of job:

Provide administrative, translation and research support to the Science & Innovation and Newton Fund Network Team of the British Embassy in Brasilia and the British Consulate-General São Paulo.

 

 

 

 

Roles and responsibilities:

 

SIN INTERN

 

Are you interested in engaging with the UK & Brazil community on science and innovation? How about being at the forefront of world class Science and Innovation collaborations between Brazil and UK and being part of an energetic fast moving team whose mission is to delivery initiatives for the economic development and well being of Brazil through Science and Innovation?

The Science & Innovation Network (SIN) assists research centres and universities from the UK to find the best partners in Brazil for research collaborations. We foster collaborations and strengthen relations between both countries’ academic communities through organising workshops, high level visits, lectures and missions. We also provide the UK government and UK academics with information on science, technology, research and innovation in Brazil and cross LATAM. We are a team of 7 people working across Brazil based half in the British Embassy in Brasilia & half in the British Consulate in São Paulo.

The British Embassy invites applications from students in at least their 3rd semester. The candidate should ideally be studying International Relations, Political Sciences, Translation, Communications, Marketing, Administrative (Business Management) or related disciplines.   Students from hard science subjects are also encouraged to apply.

This is a challenging position within the Science & Innovation Network (SIN) at the British Embassy in Brasilia. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with SIN Director for LatAm Hub (Argentina, Brazil and Chile), official visits from science research community and be involved in the diplomatic life of the embassy. He/she will make a real difference to the SIN team at an important moment in the development of UK-Brazil relations by being responsible for:

  • Administrative support for the SIN Director and Deputy Director including booking flights and accommodation, meetings, requesting transport, helping on events and official visits and missions.
  • Compiling minutes of weekly SIN and Newton team meetings
  • Administrative & missions support for SIN’s Newton Team
  • Carrying out desk research and producing brief reports about S&I landscape in Brazil and in the UK.
  • Translating media reports for UK government, compiling emails in Portuguese and preparing other documents for the Team as required.
  • Media research on aspects of Science and Innovation

The successful candidate will develop their already strong organisational abilities and strengthen both oral and written English skills. On-the-job support and feedback will be provided and, where possible, opportunities to combine the academic interests of the successful candidate with Embassy work will be identified.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, pro-active and self-motivated with excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communications skills in both English and Portuguese. Applicants must also have excellent computer skills, particularly MS Outlook and MS Office package. Previous experience with reporting or academic research will be advantageous (“Iniciação Científica”, for example).
