The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a world-wide network, representing UK political, economic and consular interests overseas.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to the UK. We are a specialised government body with responsibility for negotiating international  trade policy, supporting business, as well as delivering an outward-looking trade diplomacy strategy.

We are now seeking to recruit a Head of Trade Services to lead on designing and implementing the DIT Ireland Trade strategy in line with the DIT Europe approach and localising it for the Ireland market.

The successful candidate will manage the Trade Team comprising currently of 1 team member ensuring a planned and coordinated delivery of activities and campaigns to meet challenging targets.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To design and implement a trade promotion strategy for UK companies exporting to Ireland;
  • To ensure effective attainment of targets in trade via team working locally and nationally with the DIT Europe, UK HQ and globally with other markets as appropriate;
  • To create and manage comprehensive networks which helps connect buyers and suppliers via account management of key companies and contacts;
  • To collaborate with partners to support promotion of increased trade between UK and Ireland;
  • To support UK companies seeking to expand into Ireland.

 

  • A minimum of two years (2) business development/account management experience, especially in a trade promotion environment generating business leads and with proven success in converting business leads to business wins;
  • A minimum of two years (2) relationship management and stakeholder engagement experience working with a range of partners to help businesses succeed;
  • Minimum of two years (2) team leadership experience and managing a small team;
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of the Irish economy and opportunities for increased trade between the UK and Ireland;
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in one or more relevant sectors- Life Sciences, Infrastructure, Engineering, ICT;
  • Positive and flexible approach to team work;
  • A self starter, able to work independently and show initiative while operating as part of a wider DIT Ireland team;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills: written and oral;
  • Excellent organisational and information management skills;
  • Aptitude to analyse and process complex information quickly;
  • Ability to write and produce reports in a fast and paced way.
  • More than two years (2) business development/account management experience, especially in a trade promotion environment business leads and with proven success in converting business leads to business wins;
  • Minimum of two year’s experience of working in governmental/not for profit development bodies promoting trade services;
  • Minimum of two year’s experience of account management in a relevant sector- Life Sciences, Infrastructure, Engineering, ICT;
  • Strong professional network of established contacts in key opportunity sectors in Ireland.

This is a full-time position, initially on a two year fixed-term contract, 41 hours gross per week, with the possibility of renewal beyond this term.

There will be a requirement to undertake some travel in Ireland and in the UK.  The successful candidate will also be required, on occasion, to work outside normal office hours.
