The UK’s Department for International Trade in Mexico is recruiting for the position of Trade and Investment Officer at the British Trade Office in Monterrey to contribute to this ambition.


We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Trade Officer to cover mostly automotive and advanced engineering related sectors and activities (also interaction with other areas and sectors may be required).

He/she should be able to collaborate and partner with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the Monterrey’s team strategic activities: such as promoting UK capabilities in Mexico; communicating opportunities for UK companies in Mexico by carrying out business and market research, and creating commercial intelligence; replying to UK company enquiries on the Mexican market; support in the organisation of visit agendas, trade missions and events, and keeping track of administrative tasks.

 

The successful candidate will have strong organisation and communication skills; will be able to prioritise flexibly and use their own initiative to deliver to deadlines. He/she will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within Embassy’s Teams / Virtual teams, and different stakeholders.

 

Roles and responsibilities :

  • Identifying and verifying potential key contacts both in Mexico and the UK.
  • Scheduling meetings and follow up queries from UK companies.
  • Drafting and submitting export opportunities.
  • Conducting business and market research.
  • Preparing sector-focused presentations and sector reports.
  • Keeping track of and updating databases (Data Hub system), including assistance given to UK companies.
  • Provide logistic and organisational support in visit agendas, trade missions and events organised by Monterrey’s team, paying attention to detail for internal documents and agenda details; he/she must have excellent customer service focus.
  • Identify potential key stakeholders for Monterrey’s team, by attending meetings, relevant trade shows and networking events.
  • Monitor the media/internet for opportunities and bring relevant and intelligence information to the Monterrey’s Commercial team.
  • Collaborating with members of the Virtual Team: Prosperity: Future Cities: Mobility; and our regional High Value Campaign in Automotive and Advanced Engineering Sectors, with Brazil.
  • He/she should be capable to communicate and coordinate information across other Embassy teams such as Prosperity Fund team, regional marketing team for GREAT funded activities and external stakeholders’ events, and DIT trade missions in which sponsorship and administration of funds is required.
  • Monitor the team’s budgets by keeping a close track of overall expenditure and individual payments to suppliers.
  • Performing other administrative tasks as required (flexibility).
  • Respond flexibly to changing priorities in the team.
  • There may be occasional requirement to travel to other locations within and outside Mexico.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 8:00am to 2:00pm and be available for occasional overtime as required.

Essential on arrival:

•           A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

•           Minimum of 2 years of work experience.

•          Excellent written and oral communication skills, including fluency in English.

•           A positive and flexible team player who is willing to contribute to the team’s overall objectives

•           Able to deal with a range of competing priorities in a calm, efficient and professional manner, with a keen eye for detail.

•           Experience at managing budgets.

•           Confident in dealing with a range of contacts at all levels.

•           Organised and efficient in work and time management.

•           Understanding of the full range of MS Office suite including Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.

•           Willingness to travel occasionally.

•           Previous experience working in commercial activities: market research, event organisation including logistics and budget management support.


Desirable:

•          Project experience – including the ability to work with a wide range of people, and experience in the monitoring.


•           Automotive/Advanced Engineering Sectors awareness.
