The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Media and Digital Communications Officer.

You will take the lead in managing the Embassy’s social media accounts. You will produce and post high quality, creative and engaging content that will appeal to our target audiences and deliver key messages relevant to the Embassy’s campaigns, projects and visits. You will develop the audiences of our social media channels to ensure they match the objectives of our communications campaigns. You will also help the wider Embassy team deliver a range of media and public diplomacy events, visits and projects, as well as provide bespoke support in some policy areas at the Policy Delivery Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and post engaging and innovative content across all of the Embassy’s social media channels, including through:
    • creating visually appealing photographs, infographics and videos and writing posts that speak to our target audiences;
    • working with other Embassy teams to get the best impact for their messages, including editing, translating and posting content on their behalf;
    • working with London to ensure our channels are posting appropriate centrally created content
    • looking for innovative ways to interact with our audiences, and spotting opportunities for the embassy to make viral content;

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of Embassy communications:
    • researching local digital and media trends;
    • monitoring our audience profile to make sure that we are reaching the right people, with the right messages, through the right channels;
    • preparing evaluation reports on Embassy communications activity;
    • monitoring conversations and reactions to the content we post, topics of interest to the wider Embassy and events in the UK; advise teams around the Embassy on the tone and content of debates;

  • Plan and organise public diplomacy events and campaigns, including Ministerial and VIP visits between the UK and Ukraine, British government-funded projects, press conferences and interviews. Accompany the Ambassador or other senior staff on visits. Ensure a digital element to these events wherever possible and evaluate impact;

  • Handle publicity and promotional materials, including Embassy corporate branding matters;

  • Respond to routine enquiries and information requests from the public, keeping and updating a bank of standard replies;

  • Cover for other members of the Policy Delivery Team as required.

 





  • In-depth understanding of local social media trends and audiences;
  • Excellent presentational and organisational skills;
  • Experience of using content management systems, managing social media networks;
  • Ability to work without supervision;
  • Understanding of video production process, including video-making and photography skills;
  • Creativity, flexibility, strong team player skills;
  • Basic IT literacy, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Fluent both in English and Ukrainian (oral and written);
  • Intermediate languages skills in Russian (oral and written);
  • University degree.

  • Previous experience in similar field of work e.g. media and/or government communications;
  • In-depth knowledge of local media scene, including key outlets and figures.

The appointment is a permanent contract.

This is a full-time position of 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch. Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance.
