Department for International Trade roles (DIT)
Department for International Trade (DIT)

Main purpose of job:

The UK Department for International Trade (DIT) works with UK based businesses to ensure their success in international markets through exports and overseas direct investment, and with overseas companies to look at the UK as the best place to expand and to internationalise their business.

As a member of the DIT Argentina Team, you will lead on the development of the pipeline of commercial opportunities in Argentina for UK companies in a number of sectors, including but not limited to the Oil & Gas sector. Your role will be to identify and develop opportunities for UK exporters of goods and services to Argentina and to support new UK-Argentina business partnerships. You will play a lead role in facilitating business visits, trade missions, events and marketing campaigns.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

In September 2016 the UK and Argentina agreed a Joint Communiqué on strengthening bilateral relations, including a commitment to significantly increase trade and investment. Further to that agreement, this is a new position to strengthen our promotion of UK goods and services in a number of sectors, including but not limited to the Oil & Gas sector to Argentina. Your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • You will identify, develop and generate British exports of technologies, goods and services to Argentina;
  • You will lead on developing and managing key client and stakeholder contacts and accounts, both in the private and public sectors;
  • Working with DIT Sector Teams in London and across the UK, you will help UK exporters to enter the Argentine market or expand their existing business;
  • You will identify, validate and communicate to UK companies a pipeline of new specific high value Export Opportunities, and lead on the development and delivery of strategies to secure those opportunities for UK companies;
  • You will be responsible for delivering Export Wins and associated targets for DIT Argentina, including regular reporting of progress and success;
  • You may be required to travel within Argentina, and occasionally elsewhere in Latin America and the UK, to promote UK business interests;
  • As a member of the DIT Argentina team, you will work closely the Director and Deputy Director for Trade and Investment, and with other trade and investment colleagues, to support our wider commercial interests. You will also contribute to wider British Embassy initiatives as appropriate, including support for high level visits, technical exchanges, public diplomacy events and corporate activities.

This is an ideal position for an energetic, self-starter with a methodical and creative approach and with interests in international business and building relationships. The job will be challenging and require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering quickly and to a high standard. An understanding of how the Oil & Gas sector operates in Argentina will be an advantage, but the ability to learn quickly will be vital in getting up to speed.

Essential on arrival:

Degree and/or experience in Business Administration, International Trade or related courses with at least three years of experience on a related field/activity to that required in this job description and to be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and relationship skills.

Desirable:

Expertise in the Oil & Gas industry. Existing relationships and contacts in this sector in Argentina. Experience of working internationally or with colleagues working in different locations.
