The British Embassy in Tehran invites applications for the position of Protocol and Media Officer to start as soon as possible.

Main Purpose of Job:

The jobholder will be the main point of contact between the MFA and BE Tehran, and responsible for official call requests and Notes Verbales. You will support all aspects of BE Tehran’s Social Media work, and will also support on visas and logistics for UK officials visiting Iran, and visas for Iranian officials visiting the UK.

This job includes on call responsibilities outside working hours, for which the officer will be eligible for remuneration.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

MFA Liaison 50%

The jobholder will be BE Tehran’s main POC for the Iranian MFA, and will work closely with the Executive Assistant to the Ambassador, as well as Corporate Services Protocol. You will be responsible for:

  • Submitting and chasing meeting requests
  • Arranging logistics for meetings
  • Drafting and translating Notes Verbales (NV), and maintaining an NV register
  • Providing translation

Media and Social Media 40%

You will lead on content design for UK in Iran’s Instagram page. Together with other members of the Media team, he/she will provide advice and support for BE Tehran’s media and social media engagement and provide cover when other members of the team are on leave.

Visits and Visas 10%

You will lead on visas, travel arrangements and logistics for UK officials visiting Iran. He/she will also be the POC in BE Tehran for Iranian officials seeking UK visas, working with UK Visas & Immigration colleagues in Abu Dhabi.

This is not an exhaustive list but covers the key set of tasks and responsibilities. The jobholder may be asked to carry out other ad-hoc duties upon discussion with the line manager. The jobholder will be expected to do all tasks within their level of skill and ability.

  • Strong social media skills and an understanding of Iranian media and social media.
  • Strong attention to detail. Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines, without compromising the quality of work.
  • Experience in administrative skills.
  • Very good level of IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Experience working in other embassies or companies operating in an international environment.

Eligibility:

Applicants must already reside and hold a right to work and live in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

The non-negotiable salary is USD 2,206.43 (converted and paid in Iranian Rials at the market exchange rate) per month. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This a full-time role based on 38.25 hours per week. The successful candidate will initially be offered a three (3) month contract to cover the probationary period. Following the satisfactory completion of the probationary period, a fixed term one (1) year renewable contract will be issued.

The FCDO has a range of learning and development courses on offer, and we fully encourage the jobholder to take advantage of learning and development opportunities. The successful candidate will undergo Media and Communication training.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two months. Please note that competency in English will be tested during interview.

Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances and reference checks.  The standard probationary period for country-based staff will be applied.
