View Vacancy - Estates Manager C4 (05/20 DAR)
Main purpose of job:
To manage a portfolio of around 40 residential houses for UK diplomatic staff in Tanzania. Ensure all UK staff are housed in safe, secure accommodation in line with UK Government policy. Lead on relationships with property owners, negotiate rent and lease agreements. Oversight of the British High Commission technical works team.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Oversee all estates related issues at post.
- Forecast and oversee Estates budget, including rent, maintenance etc.
- Provide timely, expert advice to the British High Commission (BHC) housing committee, ensuring that needs of families are balanced with fair standards for all, value for money and compliance with health and safety and security standards.
- Lead BHC relationships with property owners, including negotiation of rents, agreeing leases and ensuring maintenance work is carried out.
- Negotiate and ensure quality and value for money with contractor companies and for materials purchases for Estates. Manage contract relationships with key suppliers.
- Line manage officers covering Estates Maintenance, Procurement and Customer care functions.
- Oversight of the BHC technical works team, ensuring works are carried out efficient and to a good standard.
- Ensure a programme of planned preventative maintenance is in place for all properties.
- Deputy to the Corporate Services Manager.

- Experience of property management.
- You must be able to demonstrate excellent written and spoken English
- Must be comfortable using Word, Excel and Outlook.
- You will need to be able to work independently, using initiative and problem solving skills.
- Kiswahili would be an advantage
- Experience managing budgets
- Understanding of expatriate needs
