The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) helps UK businesses export, drives foreign direct investment into the UK, negotiates market access and trade deals, and champions free trade. 

How can you contribute?
the DBT team in Sweden is looking for a Senior Trade Advisor to assist UK companies win business in Sweden and work with colleagues in the UK to develop and deliver strategic export campaigns.

We have one temporary role covering parental leave for 9 months focussed on range of sectors, including Renewable Energy and Life Sciences sector to fill.   

In your day-to-day work, you’ll conduct proactive export promotion work (seminars, trade missions, ministers and senior officials visits). A key part of the job is client relationship management. In addition, you will also focus on wider European work and market access barriers that might affect UK exporters when exporting to Sweden. In addition, there will also be sector horizon scanning and reactive work that falls outside of core work.

What you will be expected to achieve?

  • Building networks with and key-account management of UK and Swedish stakeholders in the public and private sector, focusing on sectors like Life Sciences and MedTech and Renewable Energy/ Clean Growth 
  • Identify leads and opportunities for British business within the sector
  • Develop and organise a range of activities (seminars, trade missions, webinars, Ministerial visits) to match the needs of the market with UK expertise
  • Writing briefings for VIP visits and other governmental communication
  • Identifying and reporting on market access barriers
  • Organising and delivering trade events and supporting other events to deliver the trade agenda in your sector
  • Horizon scanning for new opportunities outside of the main sector
  • Conducting market research and preparing sector reports
  • Working with Embassy colleagues in delivering cross-government trade promotion activities
  • Fluent Swedish and English language skills (C1 level or above under the CEFR*);
  • University degree, Business/Economics or applicable subject;
  • At least 3 years international business development experience or relevant policy role;
  • Fast learning, self-starter who can demonstrate initiative, resilience and project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Swedish business environment
  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities
  • The ability to work independently and as part of an international team
  • Experienced networker with established relationships in Sweden within the Life Sciences/ MedTech or Renewable Energy or Clean Growth sector
  • Knowledge of the UK and UK business environment;
  • Ease in using social media channels for business purpose
  • Agility and be able to think creatively
  • Ability to deliver success
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Have strong intercultural skills
