The British Embassy Bucharest is looking to recruit for one intern position to start in January 2019. The internship will be a 4 month full-time position spent in the Communications section.

The programme will offer opportunities for personal development such as:

  • Tailored on the job training and individual personal development plan;

  • Mentoring by a senior member of the Embassy staff;

  • Exposure to high-level events;

  • Opportunities to participate in cross-team projects and acquire new skills in areas such as: Strategic Thinking, Communication and Influencing, Collaborating and Partnering.


Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Compilation of the daily press review;

  • Updates on the embassy social media channels;

  • Contributions to public events;

  • Translation from English to Romanian and vice versa;

  • Maintenance of databases and audio/video equipment.



  • Excellent command of English language (indicated by certificates or graduation of an English-speaking academic programme);
  • Excellent command of Romanian language;

  • The completion of an undergraduate/bachelor university degree (an essential requirement for the internship). It is desirable that applicants are current Master’s candidates or have recently earned a Master’s degree preferably in Journalism, Public Relations, Political Sciences, European Affairs, but not exclusive of other degrees;

  • Availability for full-time employment from January to May 2019;

  • Good drafting, social media, and organisational skills;

  • IT literacy;

  • Flexibility to sometimes work out of office hours and on weekends on exciting projects (compensated by time off in lieu)

  • An interest to develop and seek opportunities by completing tailored training via our Diplomatic Academy.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 4 months (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 1,900 RON gross. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of up to 30 calendar days.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.
