Main purpose of job

This is an exciting Marketing and Communications Officer role for an enthusiastic, friendly and proactive individual to join the Department for International Trade’s (DIT) International Marketing and Communications Hub, which is based in Hong Kong.  DIT is the UK Government’s Trade and Investment department. It is responsible for promoting international trade, investment, and championing free trade. Find out more about us here

Reporting to the International Campaigns Manager, this role will provide marketing, communications and administrative support to the team and to DIT Marketing and Communications colleagues in over 20 countries in Asia - Greater China, South Asia, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and beyond. 

The ideal candidate will have real interest in working in a marketing and communications environment and with teams primarily across Asia and the UK, to help ensure better join-up. They should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Equally important will be their ability to build professional and respectful internal and external relationships with colleagues in Hong Kong, London and across the Asia region. They need to have great initiative, be a self-starter, with a great eye for detail and strong organisational skills. Excellent English language communications skills are essential to this role from both a written and spoken perspective and any international study, work, or travel experience is ideal. The Hub's marketing and communications' work is across a breadth of exciting industries and sectors from - green tech solutions, renewables, the creative sectors, food and drink, finance, healthcare, education, retail to infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities

Marketing, Campaigns and Event Support:

  • Support the International Marketing team through carrying out administrative tasks including updating contact lists, keeping an oversight of staff changes across the international network and keeping all relevant stakeholders informed, maintaining collateral records, and recording budgets for the team.
  • Liaise with countries’ marketing and communications teams to monitor event and campaign activity across the network, this includes acquiring photos and reports on events successes, manage and liaise with Regional MarComms Heads on a key events calendar, ensuring it is frequently updated.
  •  Act as the liaison between London and country teams for branding and marketing collateral; liaise with production agencies on quotations for regional marketing work, briefing artwork and assisting the Senior Brand Designer and Marketing Manager to deliver marketing materials.
  • Offer training and advice to teams across on marketing tools, platforms, programmes and processes.
  • Manage the quarterly international marcomms digital newsletter - working with country teams on key stories and examples of best practice, reaching out to individuals with story suggestions and ideas, formatting and editing the newsletter and managing the timeline for delivery.
  • Assist with campaign content planning and creation – outlining content, researching, and where possible creating marketing assets. Proven experience in creating content such as videos, assets for social media or copywriting would be a plus.
  • Provide ad-hoq event support (virtual or in-person) to country teams.
  • Best practice sharing to help ensure join-up between London, the Asia teams and wider international network (Africa, Middle East, Europe, Latin America and North America) – maintaining clear and supportive communication channels.

Communications Support:

  • Support country teams with writing social media posts, applying suitable tagging and ensuring the style of writing is appropriate to the channel and our audience.
  • Support country communications leads with article writing for LinkedIn and traditional media (in UK English), ensuring an appropriate tone of voice is used.
  • Research for articles and campaigns, including sharing details of statistics and data used with London for sign off.

Contract and Financial Accountability:

  • Manage financial processes (processing invoices, purchase orders, inputting) for the campaigns delivered across the government network.

  • Play an active role in embedding the ‘DIT Spirit’ by identifying and progressing opportunities to promote the department’s values of being Expert, Engaged, Enterprising and Inclusive.
  • Excellent written and spoken English – fluency is required here. This is our primary working language, due to this role being internationally facing.
  • Well-organised, with strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task/meet deadlines.
  • Proactive self-starter that uses initiative.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Personable with good team work skills.
  • IT skills (particularly Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • High cultural awareness – you will be working with a diverse international network
  • Appropriate residence status or a valid working visa in Hong Kong
  • Experience, training, or certification in design (Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva or InDesign), video filming and editing, copywriting, or digital/social media marketing
  • Qualifications in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English Language or Business Administration/Commerce would be desirable
  • Experience of, or can demonstrate an interest in working in an international environment
