The British Embassy in Kyiv is recruiting a Media and Digital Communications Officer that will take the lead in managing the Embassy’s social media accounts, produce and post high quality, creative, and engaging content that will appeal to our Target Audiences and deliver key messages relevant to the Embassy’s campaigns, projects, and visits. They will develop our social media channel audiences, working with the Campaigns Co-ordinator, and also help the wider team plan and carry out a range of media and public diplomacy event.  They will engage with teams across the Embassy to communicate their team’s work as effectively as possible. The role will also line manage the Media Team Support Officer.

 

What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

 

Design and post engaging and innovative content across all of the Embassy’s social media channels, including through:

  • Creating visually appealing photographs, infographics and videos, and writing posts that speak to our target audiences;
  • Working with other Embassy teams to get the best impact for their work and messages, including clearing, editing, translating and posting content on their behalf;
  • Working with London to ensure our channels are posting appropriate centrally created content;
  • Looking for innovative ways to interact with our audiences, and spotting opportunities for the embassy to make viral content.

 

Monitor the media space and evaluate the impact of Embassy’s communications by:

  • Producing regular and bespoke press summaries;
  • Researching local digital and media trends;
  • Learning about our audience profile through surveys and research by trusted partners to make sure that we are reaching the right people, with the right messages, through the right channels;
  • Preparing evaluation reports on Embassy communications activity for Embassy and London seniors;
  • Monitoring conversations and reactions to the content we post, topics of interest to the wider Embassy and events in the UK; advise teams across the Embassy on the tone and content of debates.

 

Support the communications and wider Embassy PDT team to deliver by:

  • Accompanying the Ambassador or other senior staff on visits. Ensure a creative digital communications element to these events wherever possible;
  • Organising press conferences and interviews for the Ambassador or visiting Ministers;
  • Supporting and guide the Media Team Support Officer to deliver on their portfolio;
  • Covering for other members of the Policy Delivery Team as required. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Ukrainian (C1) (*CEFR level);
  • In-depth understanding of local social media trends and audiences;
  • Creativity, flexibility, strong team player skills;
  • Excellent presentational and organisational skills;
  • Experience of using content management and creation systems, building social media pages;
  • Understanding of video production process, confident video making and photography skills;
  • Ability to work without supervision;
  • IT literacy, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience in similar field of work e.g. media and/or government communications;
  • In-depth knowledge of local media scene, including key outlets and figures;
  • Line management experience.

This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, with possibility of renewal, for 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch.

British Embassy Kyiv will provide a full induction. The jobholder will have access to British Embassy Kyiv’s full learning and development offer, which includes the Foundation Programme in UK International Policy and Diplomacy and other related courses. This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the role of an Embassy and international relations/diplomacy in Ukraine.
