Main purpose of job:

The Regional Manager Technical Group will be responsible for general maintenance of computer equipment, for the identification and subsequent resolution of technical problems. The technical support provided must promote the efficient and effective use of IT across all platforms used by the British embassy, in a polite and respectful manner.

This role will require travel both within Bogota and around Colombia, with rare travel outside of Colombia for engineering support or for training courses. Also the successful candidate will be required to occasionally start work early, finish late and work weekends if needed.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Technical Experience - Software

The areas below indicate some of the principal tasks and responsibilities.

  • Software Install and test new software;
  • To ensure all current installed software at all sites works on all computers and servers without issue and is kept up to date;
  • Considerable experience required with: Windows Server Family 2003-2012, Anti Virus Enterprise Solutions and Windows 7-10, Windows server 2012 and server 2016;
  • Some experience required with: MySQL Databases, MySQL Troubleshooting, PhP and Linux (CentOS); and
  • Ensure the anti-virus software is installed, kept up to date and working properly at all sites.

Technical Experience - Network Management

  • Check network links are fully operational with ability to fault find links if necessary. The types of links installed are ADSL, Microwave, Phone and E1;
  • Required experience in fault-finding network infrastructure (cable and patch panels, hubs, switches, wireless network systems), firewalls routers and keep a log of any problems encountered;
  • Carry out routine network maintenance tasks;
  • Monitor fault reports; and
  • Follow supplier’s recommended procedures in regards to the correction of any faults found.

Personal Qualities

  • The ideal candidate will have a good grasp of English and Spanish, have good communication skills, good working in a team or alone and be responsible when working with other agencies or embassies; and
  • There will also be occasions when it will be necessary to carry out urgent duties as requested by the lead engineer, therefore the ideal candidate must be able to listen to instructions and execute them efficiently.

Resources managed:

  • Responsible for local management.

 

  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a variety of IT systems;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • First-class problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Very good administrative and organizational skills;
  • Willingness to work overtime and varying hours as required and away from home;
  • Ability to work well within different teams;
  • Ability to follow instructions quickly and efficiently to produce desired results;
  • Good note taking and auditing;
  • Follows up on all incidents with customer to ensure customer satisfaction; 
  • Language: good level of English and Spanish; and
  • Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia.
  • Proficient level of English;
  • Experience in an IT project management role; and
  • Proficient use of multiple software packages.
