The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Political Assistant (Counter Terrorism & Extremism) to join the Embassy’s Justice and Home Affairs Team.

The Political Assistant will provide administrative, logistical and policy support to the Embassy’s Justice and Home Affairs Team. He/she will be responsible for arranging visits, also of senior officials and ministers, organising Embassy events, general diary management and administering projects. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to the team’s policy work by conducting background research, monitoring the press and attending events or drafting reports to London where needed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To arrange and deliver inward and outward visits, including setting up calls, visits programmes, arranging transport and accommodation;
  • To provide administrative support to the JHA team of the Embassy, including organising conferences, managing projects and making travel arrangements;
  • To provide policy support such as media monitoring, attending and reporting events and undertaking background research;
  • To assist and cover for other section assistants when needed.
  • Fluent English and German (both written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*) and good communication skills
  • Good and proven organisational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • A self-starter that can work well both individually and in a team
  • Good IT skills (especially Word and Outlook)
  • A proven interest and/or qualification in politics/international affairs

This is a full-time position of five working days 37.5 hours per week, for a contract period of two years.

The British Embassy in Berlin has a strong ethos of Learning and Development, including our Learning and Development Week.
