The British Embassy in Panama is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Communications Intern to join its Political and Communications Team at an important moment for the UK/Panama bilateral relationship.

The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Embassy’s communications strategy with specific projects that will strengthen the quality of products developed by the department.

This internship is an excellent opportunity to start your professional career with a diverse team and, at the same time, make a real contribution to the British Embassy in Panama City. The Internship provides an engaging environment where new communications professionals apply their academic knowledge and technical skills in real life situations. The intern’s work has real impact and visibility not limited to Panama but to the worldwide audience interested in UK related topics.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain The Embassy’s social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting and scheduling updates.
  • Assist in planning, writing and managing content for publication.
  • Create comprehensive database of UK alumni in the country.
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for communications.
  • Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and Embassy contacts.
  • Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the Embassy’s mission.

  • Computer literate.
  • Communications/media/social media/marketing skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well independently, and within a team.
  • Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations, Law or International Relations).
  • Project management skills.

  • Office hours in the embassy are 8am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-1pm on Fridays, though there is scope for flexible working arrangements, which can be agreed with the Line Manager; personal circumstances will be taken into account. This role requires occasional attendance at evening and weekend events.
