The British Embassy in Muscat has vacancies for three (3) Security Officers, job grade S1 on a fixed-term contract for one (1) year.

This role is open to both male and female candidates. This position is full-time, based on 45 hours per week and will involving working on shifts.

This job will be to provide cover at two security sites located 25km apart, The British Embassy, Muscat and the Ambassador’s Residence, Bandar ar Rawdah. You will be expected to cover both sites as part of your employment.  

The successful candidates will work as part of an established and capable team to ensure the safety and security of staff and families at the Embassy while working in a shift rotation pattern. You must have strong communication skills and the ability to give clear and concise advice on a range of security topics, corresponding to your position and as per policy and procedure.

Duties and responsibilities:

You will carry out security duties at the two (2) locations: British Embassy and the Ambassador’s Residence working as a team member on a 24/7 shift rotation. Duties include:

  • Working as part of a team on a shift roster. Conducting security checks, including physical searches of personnel and vehicles, monitoring of CCTV, operating UHF radio network, responding to alarms, and patrolling on foot as directed by the Post Security nager (PSM) and Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM).
  • Dealing with staff, visitors, and members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Scanning and sorting of incoming mail and deliveries.
  • Maintaining various records and security logs.
  • Acting as first point of contact outside office hours, responding to requests for assistance from Embassy staff and advising any visitors or telephone callers of the regular working hours and details of the official website.
  • Reacting to incidents and issues in a calm and disciplined manner and working as part of a team, including participating in exercises and learning and development activities to understand policy and procedures.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK Citizens.

•    At least two (2) years of relevant experience in a customer focussed, professional industry background or uniformed services (police, military) or commercial security or diplomatic security with checkable references.

Eligibility:

1.    The successful candidate must hold a local work permit in Muscat.
2.    Successful candidates will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.

Working Conditions and Remuneration:

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including a non-negotiable salary of 485.925 Omani Riyals per month inclusive of all allowances; and use of on-site recreational facilities including a swimming pool and social club. 

This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term basis for one (1) year contract, subject to a 90-day probationary period.

The security team works 365 days a year and covers 24 hours per day. This full-time role is based on no more than nine (9) hours per day and maximum 45 hours per week (including a 30 minutes break) and will involve working a varying shift pattern, covering morning, afternoon and night shifts as required. You will be expected to regularly work weekends, bank holidays and public holidays as part of your rotation. You will also be expected to be flexible to cover shifts at short notice.

Preference for location will not be given based on individual’s home location and this role is not suitable for a flexible working pattern.

Holiday entitlement is 30 days per year (pro-rated) following successful completion of a 3-month probation period. Holidays that have already been booked will be honoured. There are also national holidays determined annually by the Embassy, which usually total 14 days per year.
 
Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the potential employee having or acquiring valid UK security clearance. Security clearances can take several weeks to process. Inability to obtain a clearance will preclude employment. Loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.
