Corporate Services Support

Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting opportunity to showcase and develop IT and digital skills. Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager (CSM), the successful candidate will provide IT support for the British High Commission Fiji (BHC). This role sits within the Corporate Services team and works closely with the IT helpdesk in the UK and Secure Technical Services team in Canberra to provide services to the 36 staff in Fiji.

This is a hands-on, practical IT role in a friendly, flexible team at the heart of the BHC. The successful candidate can expect a wide range of work dealing with the full spectrum of local IT issues and should be committed to providing an empathetic, customer focused service. Including, introducing innovative digital solutions to bring about efficiencies and new ways of working.

Roles and responsibilities/what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

1. IT & End User Support

  • Take lead on User Change Management -  Ensure the correct IT equipment is ready for new joiners and collected from leavers with proper audit trails maintained.
  • Anticipate and respond to user support requests in a timely and professional manner, using the global IT helpdesk team as a first line of response
  • Provide ad-hoc training to users to help them make the most of the system, including FCDO systems.
  • Manage user accounts and access to the system including distribution lists
  • Ensure that users are aware of and comply with security procedures, FCDO IT policies and especially data privacy policies such as GDPR.
  • Conduct IT inductions of new users into the Firecrest system

2. Hardware and network infrastructure support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network problems
  • Ensure network infrastructure is well maintained.
  • Escalate problems to IT colleagues in the UK as appropriate
  • Rebuild, repair and replace faulty equipment as advised by the UK
  • Upkeep of hardware inventory and other audit requirements
  • Provisioning of twice-yearly e-waste recycling and disposal projects, including contractor management

3. Telephoney Setup & Management

  • Manage the Echo internal extension inventory, reassigning extensions to new users and recycling old ones with the help of the Service Desk.
  • Setup & Configure Echo Handsets in coordination with Mitel Service Desk
  • Procurement of new Teleworker handsets & return broken handsets to UK Helpdesk

4. A/V & Events Support

  • Set up audio visual equipment for events, maintain user instructions and troubleshoot problems encountered by users
  • Maintain AV equipment at Post

5. Other IT Support

  • Actively participate in global online IT communities to share and seek best practice
  • Provide IT support for office moves and renovations
  • Maintain up-to-date Post Information Asset Register & Surecloud Data Map
  • Facilitate Import/Export of data into Firecrest via Special Disc User access
  • Lead on Digital innovation, designing new digital systems to introduce efficiencies at Post

Essential on arrival:

  • Strong IT skills (hardware, software and service) supported by IT related qualifications with some experience on IT support
  • Strong Knowledge of IT applications and MS Windows, including Office 365 suite
  • Excellent customer service skills, a ‘can-do’ pragmatic attitude and a willingness to lend a hand across the team as required
  • Good communication skills with all levels of staff
  • Experience in delivering IT training

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of server cabling and rack management

Working Hours:

This job is available on a full or part-time (minimum 3 days a week) basis. Please express your preferred working pattern in the application. All patterns will be considered equally.

Normal working hours are from 08:00 - 16:15 from Mon-Thurs and 08:00 - 13:00 on Fridays. 

Occasionally, in line with operational duties or travel, we might ask you to work outside normal working hours and would expect flexibility.
