As one of nine global regions, the DIT Asia Pacific region is led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC), covering 22 offices in 14 markets through a network of over 250 people.

This is an exciting and demanding role for an exceptional individual to join us as Deputy Head of Communications and Marketing. Working as part of the Regional Marketing & Communications team, the jobholder will lead on marketing across Asia Pacific and coordinate the network.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Deliver effective communications and marketing activities for DIT across Asia Pacific
  • Create communications plans with Posts for key events such as trade deals, Ministerial visits and major events
  • Manage briefings for HMTC on major events, speeches and store and maintain accurate lines to take
  • Manage effective communications plan with Posts for DIT Ministerial and VIP visits and trade talks across the region.
  • Build effective partnerships with Posts, the Asia Regional Marketing Hub based in Hong Kong, and Marketing and Comms leads across Asia Pacific, effectively forming virtual teams to deliver against key priorities.
  • Actively build relationships with other government departments to add value to campaigns and encourage collaborative working across Her Majesty’s Government. 
  • Oversee a schedule of regular calls and meetings between the team with key government partners such as UK ASEAN Business Council and the CBI to keep up to date on their activities and ensure that plans and resources are shared across the regions where possible. Seek out their views when developing strategies and maintain these relationships through ongoing two-way communication.
  • Represent DIT Asia Pacific at calls and meetings with UK colleagues
  • Identify synergies and areas where a more joined up approach across Posts represents better value for money. Seek more effective approaches to best practice sharing and use of content across Posts to maximise VFM, e.g. through newsletters and regional calls or conferences. Explore regional approach to sponsors, commercial partners and thought leaders/companies used in marketing materials across multiple regions.
  • Use data and technology to promote new ways of working across Asia Pacific, and to communicate our messaging in more innovative ways
  • Lead internal capacity building through sharing expertise and knowledge to improve awareness and capability amongst colleagues of communications and marketing best practice. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and influence at all levels internally and with external contacts, and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Ability to multi-task and have good organisational skills. Ability to respond quickly and flexibly to meet multiple and changing priorities
  • Digital savvy with experience or willingness to use social media, data analytics, and marketing software tools
  • Experience in developing and managing media relationships
  • Experience of working in a communications role

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary of SGD 7,331 per month and annual wage supplement [an additional 2 months’ salary paid out in December each year], 23-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata and insurance plan.

All new hires undertake a workplace induction and there are a number of mandatory e-learning courses that must be completed in order to pass probation.

Conditioned working hours for this role are 44 hours per week. This role requires flexibility to sometimes work outside of conditioned hours, e.g. during Ministerial visits and HC events. Overtime pay will be provided in these circumstances.

In addition to the duties which this job normally entails, you may from time to time be required to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the High Commission, including playing a part in the corporate life of the mission and supporting any crisis response.
