The British Embassy in Paris is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking for a HR Manager to join our HR team in Corporate Services. The selected candidate will report directly to the Deputy Head of Corporate Services. The HR Manager is responsible for providing an efficient HR service for 286 staff employed in all UK Diplomatic missions in France (UK based and locally engaged staff) overseeing all aspects of HR administration.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Efficient management of a busy, dynamic HR team to offer the best possible service in a timely manner ensuring smooth arrivals and departures, coordinating with teams across the network. Working closely with the Deputy Head of Corporate Services on all aspects of HR administration including monthly pay forecasting and budget management with a specific focus on LE staff support;
  • Advising locally engaged staff about their conditions of employment, social security, career breaks, terminations and retirement. Management of grievances and disciplinary procedures with the Deputy Head of Corporate Services. Closely monitoring changes to French labour law legislation and impact on conditions of service. Ensuring our intranet pages are up to date with the latest HR information and guidance;
  • Supervising and quality control of local staff recruitment liaising with our HR Hub in Lisbon and in line with our HR recruitment policy, reviewing letters of appointment, attestations, and avenants. Oversee and deliver the France network induction process for newcomers;
  • Responsible for the Learning and Development Fund, budget, administration and liaison with internal/external stakeholders;
  • Delivery of the locally engaged staff appraisal system, ensuring a quality control validation and appeal process, and production of guidance to staff and managers;
  • Working in liaison with the France Network’s outsourced payroll provider and members of the finance team, to ensure accurate and timely monthly implementation of the payroll process and payroll accounting (including social charges, restaurant vouchers, sick leave, maternity leave and mutuelle);
  • Ensure efficient UK based staff support services on areas including, but not limited to, arrivals and departures admin, protocol admin, vehicle registration, health care, education;
  • Miscellaneous HR project work including pay/benefits/tax analysis, statistics for reporting to our finance hub in Vilnius and HR hub in Lisbon, integration of new legislation and policy on our terms and conditions and evaluation of the financial impact on pay. Targeted communication to staff on any relevant changes to salaries/benefits;
  • Other Corporate Services/HR tasks as and when required;

  • Degree level;
  • At least 5 years of previous work experience in HR;
  • Proficiency in English and French (written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Strong leadership and team working skills;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • Good organisational and time management skills. Well-developed customer service orientation, with a commitment to continuous service improvement and leading by example;
  • Discrete with excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure with a clear focus on timely and concise communications to relevant stakeholders;
  • Resilience and ability to prioritise work;
  • Experience of dealing with high level internal customers and managing their expectations;

  • Previous HR work experience in an international environment;

This is a full-time position for a permanent contract.
