The Trade Development Manager will be responsible for helping UK companies enter the New Zealand market and provide support to UK companies already in NZ to grow their businesses.  The role will involve developing and delivering an effective engagement strategy that evaluates and delivers on market opportunity for UK companies in the priority sectors of infrastructure and smart citiies. There will be a need to work in close collaboration with the DIT teams based in Australia to deliver DIT priorities and contribute to the achievement of export win targets.  The trade team in Auckland works closely with the British High Commission in Wellington on the UK’s wide prosperity agenda.  The job holder will also be required to collaborate and liaise with the High Commission visits team in Wellington on visits, programmes and prosperity work.

  • Working collaboratively with sector teams across Australia and New Zealand to identify relevant contacts in market within agreed sectors and developing sector propositions, which accurately reflect the scale and value of the opportunity for UK companies.  Sector allocations may change as circumstances require.
  • Develop and deliver a strategic engagement plan to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in market that will benefit UK companies doing business in New Zealand.
  • Conduct business research, produce sector reports, evaluate and disseminate business opportunities and market intelligence to support UK firms make informed decisions about opportunities in the agreed sectors.
  • As an integral part of the ANZ sector network, contribute to export win targets through identification of and engagement with export ready UK companies.
  • Represent the UK Government effectively at various events in the NZ market, meet and brief UK businesses independently on the market and assist with the development of market entry and market growth strategies.
  • Contribute to planning and logistics for VIP visits including senior UK Government officials.
  • Track, evaluate and report on outcomes of activities.  Maintain accurate and up to date records and reporting in data management platforms.
  • Contribute to the corporate agenda of the Auckland Consulate and the whole UK Government New Zealand network.
  • Providing event management for UK company launches, trade missions, exhiobitions and conferences as well as other internal and external DIT events.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working with multiple stakeholders to deliver results that benefit the UK economy.  The ability to prioritise workloads effectively and achieve corporate targets, ensuring an appropriate level of assistance is provided to customers. Work effectively as part of a wider virtual network team, managing expectations accordingly and contributing to campaigns across a range of sectors. Strong communication skills essential with customers, colleagues and team members. Ability to work proactively and build networks and contacts across a range of organisations.  Good organisational and programme arranging skills. Ability to work successfully in a matrix structure.
