Main purpose of job:

The internship for economic development is a training and development opportunity for 6 months. The Intern will primarily support the objectives of the British Embassy Manila – Economic and Social Development team, including around green infrastructure, inclusive economic growth and enabling the business environment. S/he will also support the wider economic and climate agenda of the Embassy, given the cross-area synergies across the development portfolio. 

Roles and responsibilities/what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

The intern will primarily report to the Head of Economic and Social Development, with coaching of relevant skills and work behaviours (collaborating and partnership, delivering at pace, managing quality service, etc) to deliver on her/his objectives within the half-year period. Within this development plan, the intern is expected to achieve the following:

  1. Provide assistance in key activities, events and bilateral engagements related to economic development and climate, including supporting coordination with internal and external stakeholders;
  2. Produce supplementary research work on emerging priorities under the economic and social development portfolio (example: sustainable infrastructure priorities of the Philippines);
  3. Support the Economic and Climate team in delivering policy and programme objectives, including cross-work with political and commercial teams, respectively,  including but not limited to administrative support for wider appreciation of Embassy engagements.

The role being advertised is a full-time internship for four (5) months, with a stipend of PhP10,500 per month. 

Work Hours:

The internship will be full time (36 hour work week), with similar flexible working patterns for British Embassy Manila Policy and Programme Section (e.g. half-off weekly).

Learning and Development Opportunities:

Depending on time and budget constraints, the Intern may pursue learning and development opportunities to expand knowledge on economics and climate. As the opportunity arises, informal development opportunities to expand influencing skills and personal impact may be pursued. S/he will be undergoing coaching over the period under the Head of Economic and Social Development, and other members of the team covering infrastructure, health, education, economic, climate, tech, science expertise.
