Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy Bangkok is a large diplomatic mission of around 140 staff delivering a dynamic and rapidly expanding programme of activity in support of the UK’s objectives including on prosperity, trade, security, open societies, consular services and law enforcement. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Department for International Trade (DIT). The successful applicant will play a key role in promoting the UK trade in Thailand and attracting Thai investment to the UK. DIT is a specialised government body with responsibility for negotiating international trade policy, supporting business, as well as delivering an outward-looking trade diplomatic strategy.

The role of the Trade Assistant (Digital and Trade Services), Bangkok is to support Trade Managers in every aspect of their duties including administrative tasks such as setting up meetings, arranging travel and providing briefings for meetings. The role will assist the Trade Managers to deliver their export win targets by carrying out desk-research under  the direction of the managers and interacting with British and Thai companies to help them understand trade opportunities available in Thailand. This will comprise approximately 60% of the time. This role will also work closely with the Communications Team within the British Embassy Bangkok and DIT’s Regional Marketing and Communications Team based in Singapore to develop and provide content to promote DIT’s activities in the form of press releases and through social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter and any other emerging technologies and social media platforms. This will comprise approximately 40% of the time.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Corporate Strategy Focus

  • Conduct market and company research primarily in the Digital Tech and Agritech sectors and other priority sectors to understand target company business model, product lines, growth stage and emerging trends.
  • Develop brief company profiles to be use by Trade Managers and British companies to help business match potential business partners, investors and customers.

Business Development Focus

  • Develop target lists of companies and contacts within these companies depending on the product and/or service solution
  • Assist Trade Managers on researching specific market opportunities and sectors and assist in the compilation of market intelligence report.
  • Support with promoting UK Trade in Thailand through virtual and physical activities including online webinar, roundtables, Facebook Livestream, Clubhouse, trade events etc.

Client Research

  • Assist Trade Managers on researching specific market opportunities and sectors
  • Support in the compilation of market intelligence reports

Social Media

  • Responsible for managing and developing content for DIT’s social media platforms across LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter in order to promote DIT’s activities in Thailand and UK Trade and services capabilities to Thai companies.
  • Work closely with DIT’s regional Marketing and Communications Team to ensure DIT brand compliance and consistency

General

  • In times of peak operation demand, work flexibly within the section. 
  • Good communicator at all levels, spoken and written
  • Knowledge of how social media can be used to highlight our work in Thailand
  • A flair for developing eye-catching and original content for social media
  • Strong administration and organisation skills
  • Flexible and reactive to new issues and priorities
  • Ability to work at pace and prioritise, managing a sometimes heavy workload
  • Ability to liaise with and manage external stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience in completing timely and accurate written information in English
  • IT proficiency – Using MS Office, Outlook and ability to learn FCDO systems
  • Ability to travel within Thailand and Asia
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • Keen interest in business and trade
  • Experience of living in or understanding of the United Kingdom, British people and culture

Working patterns: This is a full time role, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Subject to operational requirements, the Embassy has a flexible working policy and supports remote working patterns. In crisis/emergency situations you may need to work as required to support the Embassy response, sometimes on a shift pattern which may result in unsociable hours and/or weekend working. 

Other conditions:
