Main purpose of job:

Proactively drive trade promotion activity on the energy and infrastructure sectors and support wider UK Government objectives, including trade policy/market access, inward and outward investment, UK Export Finance and Overseas Development Assistance programmes (e.g., Prosperity Fund).  

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

The post holder will:

  • Set strategic direction and lead the energy and infrastructure sector teams in identifying and promoting business opportunities in Indonesia to UK firms through targeted sales and marketing campaigns.
  • Proactively build relationships with Embassy colleagues to proactively identify synergies between trade promotion and wider DIT/UK Government objectives, including trade policy/market access, investment, UK Export Finance and Overseas Development Assistance programmes
  • Develop DIT’s pipeline of energy and infrastructure projects in Indonesia by developing and recording market intelligence through research, company visits, relationship management of Indonesian buyers and meetings with relevant officials and stakeholders.
  • Relationship manage and provide in market support for UK energy and infrastructure companies, which have both the capability and appetite to secure contracts in DIT’s pipeline of energy and infrastructure projects
  • Share updates, knowledge and insights on market access issues with colleagues in Indonesia, Asia pacific and UK and collaborate on shared objectives, as appropriate.
  • Develop sector knowledge, both of UK capability (supply) and Indonesian requirements (demand).
  • Work with the British Chamber of Commerce and Embassy colleagues to plan and deliver activities, including inward and outward missions, seminars, exhibition groups and workshops, including high-level Ministerial and senior official visits.
  • Work with the DIT /Embassy marketing teams to disseminate information of interest to Indonesian and UK stakeholders through a range of media.
  • Manage the energy and infrastructure team members and participate in Embassy corporate functions.

Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):

The job holder will gain a broad range of policy skills and trade experience which he/she can use to further progress their career within DIT/embassy. 

We are passionate about developing our staff and we have a dedicated programme which supports the overall DIT/FCO learning and development offer. 

Additional Information:

  • Some evening and weekend work is required on occasion. Embassy Standard Terms and Conditions apply and provide for time outside of working hours to be compensated through Time-of-in-Lieu;
  • The job involves travel, including to the UK, regionally and within Indonesia. A willingness and ability to travel is required;
  • We are looking for a minimum two year commitment from the successful candidate.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • A degree plus at least two - five year’s work experience in a relevant role such as procurement, sales, management, marketing, trade promotion or business development;
  • Events and project management skills and experience delivering results against deadlines/targets;
  • A proven track record of successful relationship management with  high-level stakeholders and international clients;
  • Ability to provide oral and written briefings, produce meeting notes and undertake regular email and phone based communications;
  • Strong knowledge in IT applications and MS Windows;
  • Evidence of self-motivation, professionalism and the ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Evidence of adaptability and ability to prioritise against competing, challenging tasking;
  • Ability to work within a medium sized team.
  • Ability to travel within Indonesia and overseas
  • Sector knowledge relevant to the roles, specifically energy or infrastructure;
  • Corporate Business Development, Sales or Marketing experience would be highly advantageous;
  • Familiarity with the UK is not required, but could be an advantage;
  • Market research and analysis experience would be helpful but not essential;
  • Experience managing staff
  • Experience of operating in a multi-cultural working environment
