To lead the Beijing Communications Team and provide broader strategic direction to the China Communications Network during a period when the Communications Counsellor post is vacant.  Ensuring successful delivery across Media, Digital and Campaigns activity, working closely with colleagues in the Embassy, Consulates and London.  Providing line management to the Heads of team.

  1. Strategic Campaign Priorities:  To design and deliver a programme of activity for 2018/19 which supports the three key priority campaigns agreed with HMA Beijing – Illegal Wildlife Trading, EU Exit and Be Yourself (gender equality), working across all platforms and with relevant partners in the China Network to maximise impact and make best use of limited resources
  2. High Level Visits and Dialogues:  To provide timely, high quality communications activities and outputs which support the deliverables and aims of high level HMG visits to China and associated dialogues, working closely with Whitehall departments and Comms leads
  3. Representation at Post:  Working with the SMS1 interim Comms Counsellor to represent the interests of the China Communications Network with senior leadership (up to HMA), colleagues and partners across the Embassy and Consulates, as well as with external stakeholders in the media and beyond
  4. Proactive Horizon Scanning:  To look ahead, anticipate events, risks and opportunities and proactively develop communications plans to effectively manage these as appropriate
  5. Line Management and Team Leadership:  Providing effective line management to three direct reports, including appropriate use of coaching and development, as well as strategic direction and leadership to the wider Communications Network in both Beijing and the Consulates.
