Main purpose of job:

To manage the daily performance of people and processes in the UK’s busy Pretoria Visa Section. The successful applicant will work as part of a committed management team to ensure that work is processed within challenging customer service targets. They will report to the Regional Operations Manager, helping to identify priorities and bottle necks in the end to end process while embedding a culture of continuous review and improvement.  They will have line management responsibility, providing leadership and support, through visibility and learning and development opportunities, to improve performance. They will continue the transformation to objective reporting data systems to support fair performance appraisals as well as helping managers to address HR related problems in the workplace. They will need to forge close working relationships with HR professionals and quickly become conversant with South African employment law.  

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Be wholly responsible for the performance of staff and processes which support visa decision making
  • Provide visible leadership to the process support team, setting challenging individual and team standards and expectations
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, empowering team leaders to take responsibility for performance in their own areas to ensure that demanding customer service standards are met
  • Support and enable their management team to confidently manage individual and sectional performance by providing them with the right skills and tools through mentoring and coaching and the offer of learning and development opportunities
  • Become highly knowledgeable about South African labour law, developing a close working relationship with HR professionals, so that HR issues, including adherence to UKVI’s Code of Conduct, can be dealt with quickly and correctly
  • Ensure that behaviours in the section are in accordance with the UK’s Home Office Values and that diversity and difference is respected and its strength utilised
