Main purpose of job:

The GREAT Britain campaign is the UK Government’s most ambitious international marketing campaign ever and showcases the very best of what Britain has to offer in order to encourage the world to visit, study and do business with the UK. As the Department for International Trade (DIT) India network enters a new phase in its deployment of the GREAT campaign, this role has responsibility for delivery of DIT marketing activity in India, on time, to budget and meeting the target return on investment.

The jobholder will work closely with Trade, Investment and Prosperity colleagues to ensure maximum benefit is delivered back to the UK.

The successful applicant will need to have strong marketing expertise. The jobholder will be responsible for the design and implementation of multiple campaigns’ marketing activities to drive audience awareness of the UK’s offer and influence their behaviour towards delivering on the UK’s commercial objectives. He/ She will be responsible for collating existing UK promotional materials, proposing and creating new content to support the campaigns’ propositions, and presenting these messages in a way that will impact positively on decision-makers in India. The job holder will also deliver a number of high-impact, innovative conferences and events to showcase UK products, services and expertise.

The jobholder will need to work closely with the Senior Marketing Manager and sector trade and investment colleagues across the network to support the delivery of GREAT-focused activities and to drive awareness and engagement with campaign activities. The UK has a strong story to tell in areas where we have expertise that matches the demand in India; this role will be key to delivering those messages in the most effective way to bring real, positive outcomes.

The jobholder will also be expected to be able to travel to other posts in India.

What we want from you?

We are looking for a candidate who is a dynamic and creative self-starter, with excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to manage the varied (sometimes competing) needs of many stakeholders. Excellent written English and copy-writing skills are absolutely essential.  This role will report to the Delhi-based Senior Marketing Manager/GREAT Programme Manager, DIT.

Roles and responsibilities 

Brand and Event management

  • You will contribute significantly to DIT marketing strategy and delivery in India, advising the DIT team on creative ways of deploying the brand, for maximum impact.
  • You will oversee delivery of DIT events, ensuring that brand guidelines are adhered to, including through the production of collateral (physical, print, digital) and in the development of creative new ideas to deploy GREAT branding.

Project management

  • Working closely with sector colleagues you will be responsible for ensuring that DIT India’s marketing strategy, and strategy for GREAT branded activity in 15-16, is appropriately translated into detailed project plans, and connected to clear targets for return on investment. ROI will be linked to DIT core targets – Export Wins, Investment Leads – as well as wider perception change.
  • You will be expected to produce accurate reports of progress against milestones, expenditure, and return on investment.
  • To excel in this position, you will find creative and lasting ways to build marketing capability within the wider network, to amplify the impact of the marketing team.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Reporting to the Delhi-based Senior Marketing Manager you will be the key point of contact for marketing in Mumbai and will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely information flows between the various stakeholders in Delhi, Mumbai and around the network.
  • You will have responsibility for identifying requirements for sponsorship of major GREAT activities and work with the BHC/DHC marketing team to find willing sponsors (cash and in-kind). This will require some direct liaison with sponsors, and close working with other BHC leads who may already own relationships with key sponsors.

Digital

  • You will be extremely digital marketing-savvy, and proactive in developing our digital strategy with our marketing and press & comms colleagues.
  • Based on a track record of previous success you will design our outbound email campaign strategy, with a heavy focus on both perception-shift and expertise in building sales pipeline.

Qualifications:

Graduate/post graduate. Candidates without the required educational qualifications but with exceptional practical experience will be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant commercial/business/ events experience.
  • Tried and tested project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem skills to search out significant opportunities for UK business.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team working and people management skills. Experience of dealing with senior level decision makers. You will need to show a solid track record of dealing with senior level decision makers.
  • Experience of working in the UK; knowledge of the business environment and of UK business related policies.
  • Experience of leading a team remotely.
  • Presentational skills.
  • Experience of working in trade/export promotion.
  • Creativity – passion for delivering quality.
