The British Embassy, Israel has a vacancy for the position of Trade and Investment Advisor, Grade – B3 (L).

Overview of the role:

An excellent opportunity for a dynamic, energetic and highly-motivated individual to play a key and impactful role in the Embassy’s Department for International Trade (DIT) team.

The British Embassy in Israel is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Trade & Investment Adviser to join the DIT team.

DIT is the UK Government organisation that helps UK-based companies to succeed in Israel and other international markets.

The purpose of this role is to strengthen the UK economy by assisting UK companies to make full use of the business opportunities in Israel, and to deliver significant business outcomes. It involves identifying relevant opportunities and business partners, answering enquiries about the local market, and designing and managing events, which promote UK companies, securing sponsorship where necessary. As part of their work, the successful candidate is expected to achieve results within budget, meeting DIT’s corporate standards for quality of service and business impact.

The T&I advisor has the potential for adding substantially to the number and value of exports that flow from the UK to Israel, impacting jobs and businesses in the UK. She/he will be a crucial part of the Embassy Trade team promoting the UK as a natural partner of choice to Israeli importers and be expected to work within the wider agenda of the DIT team and the UK Embassy.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Taking a leading role to position Israel strategically post-Brexit as a natural export partner for UK businesses
  • Solving issues facing UK exporters through working closely with the Trade Policy Officer on market access barriers and engaging potential exporters and Israeli policy makers in dealing with issues that arise
  • Developing a Strategic Relationship Management role with exporters for long-term engagement of key businesses and sectors.
  • Developing and implementing a strategy for promoting business relations between UK exporters (and Israeli importers) of goods/services in a number of sectors, including the food and drink and healthcare sectors among others
  • Assist UK companies to develop their export activities in Israel by effectively and proactively developing appropriate networks and relationships with relevant stakeholders such as DIT HQ, UK and Israeli  business/trade associations/government agencies and the private sector;
  • Undertaking chargeable market research (OMIS – Overseas Market Introduction Service) and identifying business contacts and opportunities for UK companies; including trade support to UK companies, by way of market advice (OMIS or otherwise)
  • Participation in trade promotion events in Israel (including recruitment of UK companies to participate as exhibitors, marketing of events via traditional channels as well as social media platforms);
  • Arranging/participating in visits to Israel companies, government agencies/organisations and key UK players in the Israeli market;
  • Travel to the UK and occasionally elsewhere within Europe for trade promotion activities;
  • Co-operate closely with other Embassy teams, relevant external stakeholders and DIT colleagues across the Europe South region;
  • Deliver against agreed targets, including Export Wins, OMIS (Overseas Market Introduction Service) revenue, Export Opportunities, and case studies / success stories published;
  • Working independently on achieving aims of the post, while reporting directly to the Country Director;
  • Additional tasks as required by the DIT team.

Essential:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and network/relationship building skills
  • Commercial experience, knowledge of trade and investment concepts
  • Proven experience of working pro-actively, independently and towards performance targets within a team setting, contributing to the overall goals of the section
  • Experience of working autonomously, as well as being part of an international team
  • Demonstrates ability to gather, analyse, and report on information related trade issues. Ability to think strategically, planning skills and to spot opportunities.
  • Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Internet.

Desirable:

  • Experience at working in a dispersed network and communicating across a virtual team
  • A college/university level degree or similar academic qualification, in a relevant area
  • Experience of business development and exporting
  • Understanding of the Israeli commercial market and UK market
  • Competent in Hebrew, both oral and written

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 13,000 per month plus social benefits: Pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.  The successful candidate will be on a four-month probationary period.  Parking facilities are not provided or paid for by the embassy.

The Embassy invests in staff’s development with a variety of learning and development opportunities.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

  1. Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30 – total of 37.5 weekly hours. Office is based in Tel Aviv.

Combination of office and remote working is available subject to work priorities. All flexible working patterns to be agreed with line manager.
