The British Embassy in Moscow is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Communications Officer to provide the Embassy sections with a high-quality translations and interpreting. Deliver written morning media summary as required, selecting appropriate content to summarise/translate into English from the Russian press (especially providing cover in the absence of another Communications Officer). This needs to be completed by 9:15am, and therefore would require occasional early morning working.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Translate press-releases, notes, articles, speech, digital content and internal communications material from Russian into English and from English into Russian;
  • Provide interpretation during business meetings and events for Russia Network staff and  visitors, including Ministerial and other senior visitors
  • Provide support to PPA campaigns, projects, events as required, which could entail occasional evening working.
  • Deliver written morning media summary as required, selecting appropriate content to summarise/translate into English from the Russian press (especially providing cover in the absence of the Communications Officer). This needs to be completed by 9am, and therefore would require occasional early morning working.
  • Other duties as deemed operationally necessary by the Head of Section.
  • Fluent spoken and written English;
  • Fluent spoken and written Russian;
  • Interest in communications, public affairs or diplomacy;
  • Previous experience in translation with a proven track record in drafting press releases and media briefings.
  • Education in translation/interpreting would be an advantage.

This is a full-time, permanent position, for 5 working days, 35 hours net per week, Monday to Friday from 09:00 until 17:00.

The monthly salary for this position is RUR 60,432 gross, A2 (L) level, paid 13 times a year.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Russia is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Russian employment law.
