MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To provide comprehensive support to DIT’s in market Sector Specialist and Inward Investment team in Chennai. This includes operations management, financial management and communications. The jobholder will contribute to DIT’s wider work, promoting the UK as the preferred inward investment destination for Indian companies.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operations/ Logistics/ Admin (Sector Specialist support):

  • Schedule appointments and follow up on meeting requests.
  • Managing of diary.
  • Logistics for all meetings including travel arrangements for domestic and UK trips.
  • Preparation of meeting briefing / follow up notes.
  • Entries and updating of CDMS ( Customer Relationship Management system).
  • Planning for events –presentations, invitations, engaging service providers
  • Preparation of potential guest lists.
  • Attending events.
  • Managing business cards received and tracking of leads.

Inward Investment Advice:

  • Managing enquiries received through general enquiries, social media channels.
  • Assistance with investment meetings, lead generation activities  and follow up.
  • Maintaining and updating of databases and CDMS.         
  • Assistance with publications & communications /marketing materials.
  • Event logistics support, attending events on site & troubleshooting.

Communications:

  • Work closely with BDHC Chennai Trade and S&IN teams on events, missions.
  • Collate and circulate case studies & best practise from the team.
  • Develop and maintain the team’s information and knowledge management system.
  • Report monthly progress on projects, collating inputs from the team; update key lists and reports.

Finance/ Budget Management:

  • Managing Travel & Subsistence  budgets including forecasts and expense reports
  • Processing of claims on PRISM (financial management system).
  • Requisitioning and receiving on PRISM and ensuring timely payment and recording of bills and claims according to FCO best practice.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the DIT Investment team within the India network by offering all related support services to the front end of the team. The job holder is expected to develop a strong network of Information Communication Technology, Advanced Engineering & Life Sciences contacts, by attending events and following up with the contacts made. National travel will be required. Standard working hours, except when on-site at events. Events may require evening and weekend work


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Fluency in written and verbal English
  • Confident with IT solutions, including MS Office
  • A strong culture of customer service with a proven ability to deliver for the team
  • Organisation and excellent time management – a proven ability to work on several projects at once
  • Understanding of effective budget management
  • Team player – the job holder will be a key member of the team working together to deliver each event. Confident leading projects and a supportive team member
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (verbal, written, negotiation)
  • Excellent attention to detail and planning skills

SALARY PACKAGE

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be ­­­­­­INR 34,684 per month

  • The right candidate will be offered the potential to lead one of the team’s projects promoting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
  • Accompanying and briefing senior visitors from the UK during delegations.

The appropriate training and support relevant to the role will be reinforce during the period of the contract.
