To assess and decide applications for entry clearance (visas) to the United Kingdom.

  • To take a considered and pragmatic decision on visa applications, abiding by the United Kingdom Immigration Rules, current legislation and guidance.
  • To undertake a paper-based and occasional interview assessment of applications and identify those who qualify or visas and issue without delay, with strict adherence to procedures.
  • To prepare clear and correct reasons for entry clearance refusal. You may also be asked to promptly draft refusal notices for those who are refused entry clearance.
  • To ensure that correspondence is quickly, professionally and accurately dealt with. To deal with enquiries from the public on a range of entry clearance matters if required.
  • Ability to work to meet demanding targets on a daily basis with limited supervision.
  • A typing speed of at least 40 wpm
  • Previous experience in Immigration work relating to the United Kingdom or other countries with similar systems is desirable.
  • Good command of reading/speaking skills in Chinese (Mandarin) language will be a plus.
  • Good IT skills, knowledge of MS Office applications

The final contract will depend upon passing the B3 ECO mandatory training course which consists of a two weeks assessed training course either in the UK or at post in China.

Appointment of the successful candidates will also be subject to Overseas Security Clearance. Due to the security clearance level required for this position, this vacancy is open only to the following:

  • Nationals from the UK who have spent at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years in the UK;
  • Nationals from the UK who have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder);
  • Other nationals from EU countries, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia providing they have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).

Necessary security clearance for this position can take at least two months and will require completion of a separate security interview which can take place either in the UK or in China (dates to be notified). Candidates must be available for this security interview to be considered for this role.

Start dates will be flexible depending on security clearance and training availability / scheduling.

Guidance on applying for the relevant Chinese visa will be provided to successful candidates, and the visa application cost will be reimbursed once you are in post.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, 22 days annual leave in pro rata, Annual Performance Related Pay, In Year Bonus based on performance, commercial insurance package including accidental insurance, medical insurance, and business travel insurance, various trainings for this position, work life balance and diversity and inclusion organization. The gross starting salary (before all deductions) is an abated monthly salary of CNY 24, 529 paid at the end of the month.
