Department for International Trade roles (DIT)
DIT

The Department for International Trade (DIT) works with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets and encourage the best companies from the US to look to the UK as their global partner of choice. You will act as a regional specialist overseas champion for the North of England (“Northern Powerhouse”), the geographical belt covering cities such as: Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.

This forms part of the UK government’s agenda to increase trade and investment support in the UK regions and to level-up the UK economy (i.e. grow the UK economy in a way that benefits every UK region).

DIT’s network in the United States is a high performing and highly respected team of experts spread across nine cities, covering all 50 states. The US is consistently the most important bilateral trading partner for the UK and its most important source of inward investment.

This is a 50% Tech (Software, Cyber, Hardware and Telecom) and 50% Creative Industries (Advertising, Film/ TV, Gaming, AR-VR, Sports / Sports Tech) focused role that is 100% driven in FDI, ie helping US companies land and grow in the Northern Power House.

You will lead on promoting investment from the creative industries into the Northern Powerhouse region while working as an integral part of a team that promotes the whole of the UK. You will cover the southeast United States, including Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and the Carolinas. You will work closely with the UK Regions Investment hubs, DIT’s Creative Sector team, regional specialists, Investment Services Team (IST) and partners in the Northern Powerhouse to achieve results.

To be successful, you will need to be innovative, strategic and proactive. You will have exceptional relationship management skills, develop a wide network of stakeholders and partners to help you produce results, and be able to analyse emerging market trends in order to respond to new opportunities. Although we are currently working virtually, when circumstances permit you will be required to attend official functions outside of office hours, and undertake travel (US and UK) approximately 5-10% of the time.

Alongside a competitive salary compared to similar economic development organizations, DIT offers exceptional benefits. DIT also offers the opportunity to be part of an inclusive and diverse team of people. DIT strives to be a place where people can bring their whole selves to work and to build teams that are reflective of the cities in which they are based.
